i got a gtp on monday it sits on it perch all day and night an its colors a little less vibrant. should i be worried or does it mean it might shed soon. im use to keeping carpets so i want to be really careful since this is my first gtp. is it normal for them to hang out on one perch so much

If you see it move then that will be a rarity, mine has two perching places and the only time i will see him go from one to the other is if i am up at about 2am :)
THey are NOTHING like a carpet in terms of activity levels :)
If he is less vibrant he is probably going to shed - bump the humidity up to 90% for a week or so :)

My GTP is only active at night. My guy goes all over his enclosure at night. Like rob said your GTP is probably going into shed just bump up the humidity.

You can offer one. Mine eats in shed. It doesn't hurt them to eat while shedding. Some will eat and some won't its an individual thing

What for?
As for feeding you will learn over time which snakes WILL eat during shed and which wont, once you know then you can not bother offering to ones that will just waste the rat :)

Cancel the appointment. you are only going to stress your snake out more.

Personally i would leave it, moving the snake around is just gonna stress it out snd taking it away from ideal conditions during shed is just asking for problems.
Are you intending to breed it? Cos if you arent knowing the sex is a worthless exercise anyway :).
If you do go ahead with the sexing be extremely careful that the vet knows what he is doing and that he has sexed GTP's before and not just "snakes" generally. One bit of damage to that prehensile tail as a baby and you could be in a whole heap of trouble!!
Also isnt tomorrow Xmas day?? What vet does routine exams on Xmas day???

i work for the vet so for me she does lol. its not a baby snake its about 2 to 3 years old and i think about 4ft long. i was planning on breeding it with my carpet python and when i know what sex it is i was planning on getting another gtp in the near future around the same age but with more yellows. i just want to do things slowly and ask questions so i dont run into problems. but im greatfull for all the feedback and the way ppl are on this forum its really made this a lot easier

You haven't had this snake long.. let the snake settle in properly before trying to sex it and take it to the vets.

yeah, wait for it to settle in, and if you breed it to the carpet you will get stunning hybrids.
but wait for it to settle in before breeding it.

Yea I took ur advice and will take it to the vet in a few months I'm going to focus on making sure it's temp and humidity are consistent I won't be breeding for area yearsa my carpet is only about 2.5 feet and I'm not in a rush
