So im no longer able to use the larger DIY viv i intended on moving my guy into and im a little stuck. He's far too big for the little 2ft one now and he's getting a bit fed up with not being able to move around much. I can't fork out for a new one for the foreseeable future.

My beardie is in a new vivarium and his old DIY one is free - i was wondering if it's suitable for my corn, especially size wise? Its approximately 55x18x18 inches and is already heated by a basking bulb and supplementary CHE. I was thinking of upping the CHE, putting a guard on it and heating it with that (thermostat controlled).

Heres a photo of the viv in question:

I've checked the front ventilation holes and they are way too small for him to fit through and i intend to fit proper vents along the back. If i was to put in plenty of hides, enough substrate that he can move around underneath it, and make sure there are plenty of plants to give him cover, would it be ok or is it not suitable?

Sure why not? Give it a try.

ah the heating has been with a with a spotlight bulb and a 25w CHE to aid the temps for the beardie while my house had no heating - i have a few larger CHE's lying around i'd use for the main heating under a thermostat rather than an uncontrolled spotlight.

It'd be a shame to let the viv go to waste so i may have a go after christmas - its large enough i can put his old viv in side it and let him explore it at his own pace. He gets stressed easily and that method worked when i moved him from his hatchling rub :D

If the diy viv doesn't work out dont disregard using something as cost efficient as a sterilite tub. You can get them almost anywhere, in a variety of sizes and they are fairly inexpensive

I say there is never a viv that is too big AS LONG AS you can provide the right temp gradient and keep the right humidity for the snake in question.

you DEFINITELY need to guard the CHE tho, never leave them accesible to any animal :)
