He's lovely :)
Are you sure that's a pastel? Maybe its the picture, but it looks like a normal to me. Maybe he's in deep shed...

My first thoughts were "a very pretty normal" but i have no idea what to look for in a pastel so just assumed it was one :)

They eyes look green like a pastel, probley a very brown/low grade pastel. Which is probley why it was in a petshop for sale.

The top is Browned out but the pattern is very reduced. He does have green eyes and is a pastel Though. Hes also from a breeder not a Pet Store. I only purchase snakes from a reptile shop. I traded a normal boa for him which is a great deal plus if I breed him to another pastel the offspring would most likely have reduced patterns.
Hope you didn't pay more than $40 for him.
He's at best a C Grade pastel.
Because if you did, not a "great deal".

The bolded IS THE SAME THING. They just specialize in one thing. If I buy a car from BMW dealer it doesn't make it any different from the other lot that has BMW's and porsche.
Also, for the breeding part. You can breed it to another reduced normal and produce reduced animals. Doesn't have to be pastel. Pastel x Normal produces pastels and normals.

Reptile shop = petshop same thing. Most breeders will pass off lesser quality animals to shops for the impulse purchases. Of course if he was a top grade pastel the breeder would either keep him or offered him for sale.
If you do want to breed I would not ever breed that male, he will produce browned out off spring. Basically if he is bred that is taking a huge step backwards. People who want pastels want the bright yellow ones, not the browned out ones. Breed to improve the animals!

That's not necessarily true. I sell off all pastel males to wholesalers. It's easier for me to feed them a few times and move them out at that price then to sit on them and hope someone buys at double or triple the wholesale price. The only time I have one for retail is if I knew ahead of time someone looking for one.

Corey209, it doesn't look like a very good example of a pastel to me... Congrats on your new addition though! :)

It is a pastel, I can guarantee but I most likely won't breed.

No one is saying it ISN'T a pastel at this point. People just are crapping on it's look.
Glad you like it though. All that matters.

He wasn't so browned out when I picked him up about a week ago, I think he may be starting a shed because his eyes are getting a little foggy.
Dan; definitely an A- pastel. Still young, will most likely brown out, but you've got a great looking baby.

That shot is about 3 months old. He is about a year old in the shot. We have no intentions of breeding him. He is a great pet. Just took his first feeding break. Ate yesterday for the first time since September. Actually all of my males started back on feed this week :)
Back to the thread. I actually like the look of normals or pastels like the ops. I have seen some awesome normals. Maybe I am alone on this??

I agree, it has a great pattern.

Nice pet, but for breeding stock always go direct to a breeder so you can have a pick from the litter..
Pythons don't have litters...

They took in my boa that had ri and let me pick a low end bp that they did breed so I'm happy about it.
If I were to breed this guy in the future to another normal with reduced pattern would I be able to make one with even less patterning?

Probably not. There isn't much less to lose. Try for it though. Keep breeding until you get super thin bands or something. It will take a few generations though.

I want to try him with another reduced pastel but I won't be selling the babies only giving them away to friends or people interested in their first snake. I also won't be breeding for awhile and it'd only be a hobby as I have no plans in ever starting up a business. The place I got him from said he's most likely starting a shed which is why he's so dark but if he doesn't lighten up ill ask them about it as they said this is a $150 snake.

That's because you paid...wait for it...a PET SHOP PRICE.
From breeders, it's worth $100 bucks on a super good day at that size.
If he's starting a shed he'll be dark for a bit then lighten up some. I highly doubt he'll be as bright as Terranaut's.

I only paid 100 for the boa I traded in for the bp and they said that the bp is worth 150 but I didn't have to pay anymore for it. I'm hoping he's in a shed but either way they took the boa off my hands even with ri and gave me a healthy snake so I can't complain.
