View Full Version : New size acrylic
Hey folks,
I am 90% finished with my latest acrylic arboreal enclosure. This time I have photo-documented every step and eventually will do a "How To" sheet(s). I would have finished it but the !@#!#@ pro-heat panel didn't show Friday! Anyway here are some photos!

how do you burn it ?
Burnt PVC was an idea from Alex MC. It is done with a propane or butane torch. Once the pvc has been "blackened" it becomes plyable and can be shaped. Hitting it with water hardens it immediately. A stiff brush takes off the "crust" and nolvasan is used to clean it. Once you start working with it, you get a feel for it. As long as you keep safety in mind, it's really easy and they can't tell that it isn't wood.

Very, very nice!!!:)
Looks pretty good, i like the tray idea, great way to clean the cage/change the water with out disturbing the snake. was trying to figure out a way to do it with a ground dwelling snake.
looks really good, CraigC
Good God you people are talented!!!

looks good! are you keeping gtps/etbs in there? doesnt the burnt pvc smell? or did you leave it out and de-stinky-fy it?
XxRachxX,
There is no odor and we scrub the burnt pvc with a stiff brush to remove charred bits and then clean with nolvasan.

you could do it with a ground dwelling snake. although it would be neat, it would be kind of pointless because you would still have to move the snake out of the enclosure anyway. it would still make dumping the substrate much easier. but if you use newspaper it can't get much easier than that. i want an ETB or GTP or ATB or any tree dweller just so i can have a cage as stellar as that.
Thats just an amazing cageand awesome idea on the pvc.. I bet those fumes must of been pretty bad too!
Dom,
Only if you breath them! LOL

I would suggest wearing a catridge type filter mask when burning pvc just in case something bad is released during the chemical exchange created by those temps.
I definately like the idea of customized branches. The texture would be nice also.

Very nice looking Acrylic cage you made there CraigC.
I may just have to steal your idea on the way you mounted your branches. :0)
Make sure you post a picture of the cage after you mount the heat panel. I would like to see how it looks with it installed.
Take care,
Tom
Tom,
Here is a pic with the heat panel. For those of you looking for the "How Too" sheets, I have to wait until we slow down at work before I will have the time to devote to them.
