View Full Version : Plastic container question
I have looked at multiple websites (Sterilite/The Container Store/ etc) trying to find "that perfect container". I am looking for a large to very large container. I have never used plastic tubs/containers before, sooo....I am asking the experts! Who has the biggest/sturdiest/best lid/etc....
thanks in advance for the help!

what size roughly are you looking for? I just go to Target or WalMart and look around to see what they've got.

Big...think sub adult to adult carpets. I've been to Target and WM, I've seen what I can get locally, but before I buy, I was hoping to get some advice on what has worked best for others. I thought here may be other brands out there I didn't know about. Like I said, I've never used them, and there may not be a "best biggest" out there.

Christmas Tree Totes. Artificial Christmas Tree Box by Iris, Plastic Storage Boxes (http://www.stacksandstacks.com/extra-large-storage-box-with-snap-down-lid-iris-251019)
Wal Mart should have some come in within the next week or so. Chuck, Marvelfreak, uses them for his bigger animals.

How many do you need? If you're needing more than a couple, I suggest PM'ing Chuck on his set with them. It's a great little set up and very affordable. :)
Really useful box is the brand that is most popular over here and they do a lot of sizes and have locking lids which saves modification. Not sure how available they are over there or if its just online but over here you can get them cheaper in shops (staples is where I get mine) than you can from their own website.

I missed out on getting mine last year because I was waiting for them to go on clearance. They sold out before they had a chance to clearance them. >:(

While I don't think there's a problem with using the big Iris Christmas tree boxes, I don't think they're appropriate for semi-arboreal carpets. I don't think they've got enough height to them. But maybe that's just me.

I didn't think about that :(

that's where my hang up is....i know some people do it, i'm just not sure what product they use....there may not be a great answer and i'll have to go another route.

Just go to Walmart and walk around I have seen some that are like 2+ feet tall and would be easy to screw branches and stuff to the side. It wouldnt be that tall but I think it would be tall enough.

Here's were i got mine. It use to be the UPS Home store, but they change names. IRIS Holiday Tree Box :: Welcome to NeatlySmart? :: Good things for your home & family? (http://www.neatlysmart.com/catalog/item.aspx?sku=24433&catid=1521)
Also being the lid are a darker color when they are on the branch you can't see them so it work like a hide. As you can tell from the pictures it's were they spend most of their time. I personally thing they make perfect cages for semi-arboreal snakes.
You can get three of them shipped for the price of one Boaphile or AP of the same sizes. Plus the have a reinforce bottom for extra strength. Flip locked lid with a 1.5 over lap around the lid making escape impossible. All my Carpets are 5 to 7 foot or bigger and the size is perfected for them.

I still personally don't think that's enough height chuck. If I've got a species that's semi arboreal I want them to have more than 14 inches of height. I might pick up two of these this year, I've got an idea.
Chuck...those look like they may do the job. Thanks for the tip!
