Hi everyone,
Looks like a GREAT site here. Lot's of herp lovers in Canada, eh. :)
I am new here and I just moved back to Canada. I have been living in Taiwan for the past five years.
I first love is my wife and second is Chelonians. I also like other herps, but my wife will not allow me to have any other herps - YET! Ha ha ha! :)
She was surprised when she met me how into turtles I am, but now she has come to love them. She is terrified of snakes, but she loves pretty patterns - like Star Tort. I am slwoly trying to get to appreciate the colours of various snakes and lizards. We'll see.
I keep aquatic turtles right now, but I am looking to get into tortoises. If you know of any available in Canada, give me a shout.
Cheers,
JJ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. This is a real FINE site. Lot's of knowledge and very friendly people.
ETET - I have common snappers as well. Yeah, my favourite is Star Torts and I have been trying to get one for the longest time. They cost over C$1000 in Canada!
Edwin - yeah, 'wu gwei' means turtle in Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese).
Lisa - I did herp in Taiwan - most turtles and with rehabed some wild RES & Chinese Golden Threads (native). I have seen a few snakes in Taiwan, but I didn't know what they were. There are a lot of exotic species in Taiwan, but mostly smuggled in though.
Anyway, great site. Glad I found it and I heop to learn more about snakes and hopefully my wife will warm up to them....
Cheers,
JJ ;)

welcome Wu-Gwei, sounds like we are in the same boat. lol, only it is my husband that is afraid of herps. After a couple years of negotiating I got him to compromise with lizards if I didn't get any snakes. :) I started with a couple sals and now I have 9 bearded dragons, 20 leopard geckos, 4 fat tails, a spanish newt, a tree frog, and a blue tongue skink. :) Hope I didn't forget anyone there. ha ha. The blue tongue was one of my last investments. And when I brought it home and took it out of the carrier he shreeked and said "Put that snake thing back in the box!" lol.
He also gave me my own herp room so he doesn't have to see the herps too often. :D Maybe you could start your wife off slow with a nice little cuddly leo. o> Their smile winnes over some of the best. :)
Anyway, just wanted to wish you and your wife a warm welcome to ssnakess, and welcome back to Canada. ;)

Damzookeeper - Thank for the warm welcome. That's what marriage is all about - give and take. She's cool with turts, but snakes will be tough. I think you are right about a cute little colourful leo and that will be my attemp to warm her up to herps. (Wow, a pun and an oxymoron in the same sentence.)
Hey Chris, nice to see you here too. Is your Reptile HQ website up and running yet?!?
Cheers,
JJ ;)
