View Full Version : Shedding Problem

So I have a crocodile gecko that I got a little while ago. She wasn't in very good condition (the guy I got her from was an idiot), but I got her back to being healthy. She had an infected scrape on her head, but the infection's been cleared up for a while now. Still, it doesn't shed right. The rest of her body sheds just fine, never had any problems at all. But that one spot doesn't shed, and there ends up being a buildup of old shed there. I was thinking of buying some shedding aid stuff, but I don't know if it's okay to use on an old scrape. Would it be okay? Here's a pic:

You could try a shed aid or maybe a nice soak.
Is it real thick?
I have never used any kind of shed aid so I can't help you with that. I assume there is a humid hide though? When it does shed, does the piece on the scar wrap all the way around the head or just a flap on the top?

Is it real thick?Well, see, I'm not sure exactly how it is. This is a very shy gecko, and she sheds quite frequently. I only just became aware that this was an issue the other day when I went to clean her tank and noticed she had a pretty thick layer of skin on that spot, so that could have been from more than one shed. She's shedding again now, and there's a flap of it stuck to her head, but it doesn't look too thick. When I saw it earlier that was thick, I put her in a container with several warm, wet paper towels for a few minutes. Then I rubbed it gently with the paper towel until eventually I got it all off, but it took quite a while. I don't wanna put her through that every time she sheds though.I have never used any kind of shed aid so I can't help you with that. I assume there is a humid hide though? When it does shed, does the piece on the scar wrap all the way around the head or just a flap on the top?Just a flap on the top. And yeah, she has a humid hide, though she never uses it. So I tried to start raising the humidity in her setup a little when she's shedding in hopes that'll help, but it doesn't appear to have.
