Folks, our forum has been invaded by spammers, Alessia and I have been deleting enormous amounts of spam posts for the last few days.
The Ping notices are from spammers associating their products with our site.
I just deleted a huge slew of pingback links, and will continue to do so until we get the spam blocked.
To ease your concerns, the spam is generated by a script (software) and no one is reading your posts or profiles, all this script is doing is generating posts that are advertisements for products and services.
Again, I cannot stress enough, this is a software attack, NOT human. Spam "bots" are writing advertisements to the forum and nothing else. All other security is still in effect.

Thanks for the update! I'm ignorant about things like this and didn't know if it was something that was happening from your end or my end.

Irrelivant, We are running the absolute newest VB at thamnophis.com (the sister garter snake forum) and Tham.com is being invaded with spammers too.
I also mod a bit there too, so I have been double busy clearing this crap off boards.

Because just like your very first post, it was held in an invisible holding area awaiting a moderator to approve it.
If you can't see it, that means your moderators are doing the job.
I just checked one of my other favourite herp forums, and they have spam on the front page, not ditzing the mods or anything, but we are damn good here at keeping this stuff from view.

look at the front page of this place... I used to post there, but that front page is what the forum turned into.
The Reptile File Forums (http://www.thereptilefile.com/forum/search.php?searchid=242880)
try and find a reptile thread without using search.

That's not what I meant. Maybe it hasn't hit the realm I mod yet.
Anyway, with it being contained in the invisi-area why'd you feel the need to make this PSA?

Is there any way to source this crap?
I wish they would hold the advertised companies responsible for the actions of their advertisers methods...internationaly!!

it's always generated in Russia, China or South America where there is no regulation against it.
There is another method commonly used. Park a boat (usually a comfy yacht) just off the international boundaries, use a satellite connection and proxy server, then sell your advertising as you wish, no laws out there against it.
If I remember correctly, Pirate Bay purchased a small island to continue operating a web site that was court ordered to be removed. The site is still up.

Shouldn,t be hard to sink one with a torpedo ;)
Seriously the cost to the public has got to outweigh the cost of "sinking" spammers either literally or metaphorically. Imagine the bandwidth alone.
