So, about a month ago, I ordered a bunch of mice from Layne Labs. Well, they looked great until about a week ago and now there is blood all over them. Are they still good? I would hate to loose a 100 dollar order. They are frozen and have always been frozen. Thanks!

If they are frozen then they cant bleed?? Some of mine will bleed a little when defrosting but not while they are frozen.

did you lose power or is there any way they could have thawed and refrozen? cuz that could be bad.

If there's blood all over them they are not froze. Check to make sure your freeze is staying below 32f or 0 c. Some newer freezer have auto defrost cycle and if you don't have it set low enough when it goes into defrost some of them maybe thawing out. You want to have it set low enough that if you turn the power off for a hour or two that they will still be frozen.

We haven't lost any power and I do not believe it was ever turned off..etc! They should not have ever been thawed though.
Do you think they are bad? I would hate to feed my snakes something that isn't good.

If they are bleeding they diffidently thaw at one point, then refreezing when it kicks back on. Most freezer do it in the middle of the night. So they won't be any good. I have refroze before but never more than once. My guess is your freezer is going threw a defrost cycle every couple days or so. and this was when they thawed. I would pitch what you have to be safe and set your freezer to a lower temp. This way if it is cycling it will be harder for them to thaw while in defrost cycle. Also get a thermometer and check your freezer temperature.

Thaw one out. If it smell wretched then toss them all. If not feed away.
