So my ball python had some old shed on the tip of his tail. I soaked it for a while and it came off, however, the very tip (1/2 cm) was bloody. I wrapped a band aid around it to try and keep infection out of it. It looks discolored now and it is bleeding slightly (discolored).
Is it safe to use peroxide on it or is it absolutely necessary to take him into a vet?

A picture would help - not sure about the band aid either, wont it pull off more scales when you remove it?

Pictures would definitely help and the rule of thumb is nothing sticky near the snakes well at least that's the rule in my house

Don't use a Band-Aid on a snake...it can pull off more scales or trap dirt/bedding underneath it. You should put the snake on paper for the time being, until his/her wound is healed. You can apply Triple Antibiotic ointment 3 times per day until the wound is healed. Hope that helps.

Just cover the wound with neosporin for a few days.

Just to clarify... this means use the ointment without the pain-reliever in it.
