Hey,
For the retic experts out there. I have a good size PVC pipe in with my 1 year old super dwarf retic. I sanded it to rough it up and when I put him on it he climbs better than a Jungle Carpet! However, he never uses it on his own. Am I wasting enclosure space or is it a good option? It is a beautiful snake and want to make him happy:blink:

Mine will climb over, burrow under, push over, destroy, rearrange anything and everything that gets put in his enclosure :)

All three of mine climb when given the opportunity. They're semi-arboreal species, even normal retics like to climb and most will until they get too big. Its not necessary to give them something to climb on but I would leave it in there.

Mine too. I've given up on an aesthetically pleasing enclosure to just functional!

Snake and Monkeys - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CNz_0pcYo0) -- mute your speakers though the background track is super annoying . . . also ignore the non-retics in the video - it's disclosed that he just used a mix shot of snakes to fill some blanks.

As far as SD climbng, yes they LOVE to climb. I provide mine 2' high enclosures, and they have 3 PVC perches within the cage that they utilize to the fullest. Most of the day time is spent under the hide, but when the lights go out I can generally find the SD's up high. As they get older they have a less tendancy to climb, but the desire is still there. My nearly 9' 50%SD Tiger het albino, will climb all over me when I have him out and he always wants to rush to the top of the PVC enclosure wall to get as high as he can. I would say that SD's are definitely more aboreal than any of the mainland counter parts.

Mine head straight for the top of my head when they come out.
Definitely more arboreal.

Here's the vid of the retic hunting, straight up the tree!

Funny, started the video and it looked different than the one I posted, then I finished watching after I posted only to find out its the same video with some filler of a Burm.

Yeah, did not understand their addition of the filler snakes . . . nor the horrid back track.

yeah, stupid video editing choices, the track could've been a lot worse though.
