Ive always heard of one wide basking spot over the warm side, with temps inbetween what you have them at (from 110-130), and then the cool side being around 80. I dont personally keep them, but thats the way most of my friends keep thier enclosures, albeit they are much larger than a 55gall tank.

That setup is far from ideal.

I highly recommend having the adult cage done very quickly.

I like how no one answered the question straight off the bat.
Which was awesome as there's no straight answer.
Two thumbs up.

I think the only way to know if the spots are "good" is to describe the behavior of the monitor... is your savannah monitor using either spot? How much time does he spend in the each spot?

With what are you measuring the surface temperature? (infrared temp gun, etc.)

Do you have any substrate in the enclosure? How deep is it?

Where is your monitor spending his time?

Can your lizard burrow underground in it's current cage?

You do know they live underground right?
