View Full Version : Foaming at the mouth?

I noticed Sunday during a routine check-in that one of my BCC's had a small about of what looked like saliva, if you will, just out the tip of his mouth. Nose was clear, no bubbles or other sign of URI, and this saliva is not apparent now. One small bit to add to the concern is that he didn't eat last night where normally he's a pretty aggressive eater.
Is this most likely a URI? Obviously I'll keep a close eye on him, and continue monitor his eating, just wanted some opinions.
Thanks as always!

yea most likely. or he could have just had a drink. if theres no other signs just keep your conditions ideal and keep a close eye on him. hope its nothing!

Thanks for confirming. I was curious since there isn't the customary runny nose.

I would quarantine just in case.

ya, my guy has had 2 ri's (BP) neither time did he bubble at the nose till we were at the vet, just some saliva out of the mouth and not eating (he's pretty voracious feeder)
sounds exactly like what my guy does when he gets an RI

So, quarantine, increase humidity and temp a few degrees?

I'm not sure but I think it's standard to just raise the humidity.
You don't hear a continuous popping when he breathes, do you?
I'd quarantine as well.

It is breeding season right? How old is your BCC and is it a boy or girl? One of my males went off feed and has been pissed lately though he is calming down again. I think his hormones were just off. Its his first season of sexual maturity. Kinda big boy 6 foot and about 6 pounds 2 yrs old. Dropped 2 plugs over the past couple months in his water dish. Hope that was just water on his/her mouth and just went off fead due to season. If your worried take him to your vet :)

No popping noises or wheezing at all.
He's a 2010.
DEFINITELY raise the humidity. You want to keep the mucous in the lung moist so that it eventually moves its way out. If you decrease the humidity you run the risk of the mucous hardening and impeding breathing.
Get the humidity up over 80% and increase your temps a good five degrees. Also head out to a vet for a culture.

Thanks Mykee. Both temp and humidity were raised this morning.

So you do raise heat as well as humidity. I couldn't remember as I've heard it discussed and even argued to the point I couldn't remember. I did know to raise the humidity.

Roy just to be safe maybe you should send your Mads to come stay with me. This will lessen their chance of catching it.:D:D:D:D

For most (if not all) pythons and boas you raise humidity.

sorry for the wrong info guys. never had to deal with an RI other than a corn snake and an anaconda. lower humidity for corn snake, higher for anaconda. i thought the higher humidity was just because of how bound to water anacondas are.. didn't know it applied to boas as well, but it makes sense. never had to deal with it though..
i love learning here!
