Hey everyone, i was wondering, what are some household items that make good hides for balls'?

A Tupperware container with a hole it out and the edges smoothed. A flower pot, a cardboard box, a cereal box... With a little creativity there are many options :)

Depending on the size of the snake i use Butter dishes, Coffee cans, cool whip containers Flowers pots. Also for bigger snakes Cat littler boxes and just small plastic totes. All plastic so they are easy to clean and to cut openings into.

If you're going for the more natural look, you can use a regular plastic container and put some moss or something on it. Also, I found this:
DIY Home-made "realistic" Hides (http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?77863-DIY-Home-made-quot-realistic-quot-Hides&highlight=hides)
Of course, that's just if you're concerned with how natural it looks. I'm personally a fan, but it doesn't necessarily make it any better. :)

i use the top or side of a box, then cut a portion and tape it to the from to make it secure. someone really needs to come up with an adult boa hide and an adult ball python hide.

An easy hide can be made from PVC pipe. Not normally found in some ones home but very cheap at the big box hardware stores. I've used connector pipes too. They come in all sizes from really small up to 6 inch. You can buy the couplings or straight pipe which can be cut to make a couple of different hides.

I use boxes, mainly those that are called bag-in-a-box boxes. These are what fountain drink syrup come in. They work well for 3-5' snakes and they're free. Most convenient stores will let you have theirs if you just ask. :) Bonus if you work at one or other place of business that has them.
I've also used cigar and cigarillo boxes for babies. The only thing I've discovered with these is I have yet to find one snake that will used one that has a flavor smell to it, like a grape cigarillo box. They only seem to like the non flavored boxes.
I use boxes because I can get them easy and it's free. It gives a secondary use of something that often gets thrown away. Plus when they soil it or it becomes old, it's easy to replace and no cleaning required.
With bag-in-a-box boxes, I do cut out the bottom and will usually leave the hole that the bag nozzle comes out. When I first started using them, I didn't cut a bottom off and discovered my snakes liked them so much, they refused to come out! It's easier to just lift the box off of them than trying to coerce them out of their hide.

Please do not use Tape in a snakes viv.. Very very Bad. The snake can get stuck to the tape if even the tiniest bit comes loose.

Taylor I don't have any right now, my BTS got too big for the two I had but here is a link to Lowes showing a 4 inch straight pipe. You can also get elbows and connectors of different lengths and bends that are great. PVC can also be made to look a little woodish looking by burning the outside of it. This needs to be done outdoors as it emits a toxic gas when being melted. With a small torch you just scorch the outside of the pipe and it will turn brown in differing shades to make it look like wood or bark.

I have a leopard gecko and a crocodile gecko right now, and I'll be getting four mourning geckos in December. I've got four dogs, ten cats, a horse, a rat, and my two geckos (plus the four in December), so I really can't afford to get all the herps I want right now. XD

I'm going to look at some pics right now. They were all taken in as strays or abused or whatever. One was found in a dumpster as a kitten, one was being kept in a closet, one was a pregnant stray who showed up at a house and they were gonna shoot her (we kept her and two of the kittens), three of them were stray kittens in a trailer park with eye infections (which left one of them blind), one was a barn cat, and the last one got thrown out of a barn loft as a very tiny kitten.Just looked at some, those are bad A.I've got pics of mine up somewhere, but they were cell pics so they're not very good.
