This is parker. My V. Albigularis Microstictus. He is 9 months old, give or take. Finally got a good shot of his size. He grows like a weed. 5-7" a month.
Feeding on 2 rats a day, plus about 10-15 night crawlers and the odd day gets silverside fish.

The enclosure is a week away from openin up the full enclosure for him (8x4x4 ish). Then the black throat will have a 10x5x6 enclosure for himself.

why the empty light socket?

To increase heat if I need to. The lights are in the shape of a triangle, with the two, I get 130-145 on the rock, was more of a fail safe for winter if I have issues.
Also was designed for a juvenile, he's coming out the small size in a week or so, and I'll be redoing the lighting and whole tank for an adult now :)

Thank you, he is almost done shedding so ill get some better pictures up soon.
As far as his attitude, the hissing and whipping has decreased to once in a blue moon. Though I don't really bother him unless I'm feeding him. Lately I've been able to get a back rub while he eats, and when he jumps out for food, I can pick him up and put him back with ease.
I still have a lot of trust to gain with him, and he has trust to gain with me :P

Finally past the point of hissing and fear of biting with the white throat now, man does it feel good, 7 months of patience and tong feeding, I'm confident he will not bite me unless I really back him into a corner.
He tried to come out of the tank today to explore, and I let him out where I was comfortable, and lifted him up back in with no signs of aggression.
"Hands off" is truly hands on in the long term application.

Well the Black throat wasn't interested in posing for me, so I bugged the white throat for an update lol
he's still growing at a good rate, and is adamant on destroying everything in the enclosure daily lol.

I'd say he's just over 3' in length, another 1.5' to go. then pack on the girth.

Just an update, getting big, eating non stop. Pictures make him look small, but he's getting there.

Hi, as far as I`m aware, there are only 3 subspecies currently recognised; V. a. albigularis, V. a. angolensis and V. a. microstictus. If you have info to the contrary I`d be interested in seeing it. Thanks!

You can check out the currently recognised species of the Varanidae at the following website: reptile-database.org
Ionidesi is not a recognised subspecies as I said, it can get very confusing at times (I think they do it deliberately)! :o
One point for the OP: they do NOT grow at 7 inches per month, or even close, I`m guessing you`re guessing!? I`ve even heard claims of 12inches in a month before today (nonesense)!

Varanus albigularis | The Reptile Database (http://reptile-database.reptarium.cz/species?genus=Varanus&species=albigularis&search_param=%28%28taxon%3D%27Varanidae%27%29%29)
The database lists ionidesi. It lists angolensis too, interesting. I had never heard of that one.

Hi again, you didn`t read far enough, go further down the page, Ionidesi is not recognised at this time.
You can also check out the updated list of Varanid species by Wolfgang Bohme (type that into your search engine).

Yes just a guesstimate. I was doing division based on growth for a period of 6 months, and he grew 27" give or take.

Agreed, when I say "micro" I'm referring to microstictus. The ionidesi is a grey area, Considered an albigularis in the trade, though I'm not certain as far as legality and correct documentation goes.

Who knows, this time tomorrow "they" may decide ionidesi is a valid subspecies, or even a separate one in it`s own sub-genus! ;)
Though this article doesnt touch on albigularis changes specifically, I thought you guys might find this article interesting regarding taxonomy anyway. Its goes over the updates of new species designations since the Bohme report to CITES in 2002.
