Humidity Advice

Hi Guys,
I have a glass terrarium with aspen bedding (I know it isn't the best set up for humidity, but i keep it in range). I have put aluminum foil at the top to trap in the humidity and mist 2-3 times a day to keep it at level.

My concern is that I will be leaving for a vacation during christmas time and nobody will be around for 2 weeks to mist the terrarium. Are there any "automatic misters" that i can use that work well? I see some for frogs, but am not sure if they are ok for snakes. A guy suggested that they can hurt the snake, but he didn't really know a whole bunch on snakes when I asked him some other questions i already knew the answer too. Does anybody have a an automatic setup for humidity? if so, which brand and how do you like it?

I have a monsoon made by zoomed but lately I've been having trouble with it lately I hear mist king is a great choice and it will be the next mister I buy

Also you can use moist sphagnum in a hide for added humidity

You can also make one yourself with an aquarium air pump, a gallon jug, and some tubing. Can be done for about $15-20 depending on the size/cost of the pump. I made one using a gallon jug of water and it lasted for about 3-4 weeks before having to be refilled. Worked good on a 40gal tank. Only drawback was the cheap pump I got was fairly noisy.

Obviously test it for yourself before leaving with it running.

Personally i would change the bedding to something like reptibark which holds the moisture better and then lay a covering of sphagnum moss over the whole floor of the tank, misting this will keep the humidity up much mire and you may ifnd that one mist a day is enough.

Wont solve your vacation issue tho :)

A few things.. Change out your aspen to cypress or like Rob stated reptibark. Aspen molds easily and isn't made to hold humidity. Place your water dish on the hot side and make the dish as large as you can. These things will help but they won't last 2 weeks. Putting it in a tub is a better option and would do a better job than a tank.

I personally wouldn't leave my snakes unchecked for 2 weeks. They at least need fresh water and a temp check after a week.

There are people whose job it is to petsit. Can't you find one and just have them check a few times? Or even a friend or something?
