Alright, so I recently adopted my dad's friend's crested gecko because, apparently, her daughter became afraid of the gecko or something. She's pretty plain-looking, but still attractive, with a fairly uniform tan color and some cream color on the tail. My understanding is that Cresties' genetics are more like breeding, say, cats and dogs than breeding other reptiles, in that they really don't seem to have recessive mutations and incomplete dominant mutations and stuff like that-is that correct? I would like to purchase a male partner for Taylor at the next Reptile show, so my question is, based on my description, would she be worth breeding to, say, a Dalmatian or Harlequin or another distinct morph if I want to produce good-looking, genetically superior babies? If not, then what morph/type would I breed her to in the hopes of producing good offspring? I am an aspiring breeder as well as a newbie to Crested geckos, and I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing while breeding Taylor. I am also aware that I will probably be lucky to break even while I'm breeding Cresties. Thanks in advance for the help!

Okay, here's my advice: There's no need to breed cresties. The market is way oversaturated right now. There are so many cresties produced every year that unless you had some of the finest stock in the world, there's no need to do it. Breeding should be done to improve the species. I mean no offense when I say that there's really no need in the gene pool for some mediocre "plain-looking" but attractive cresties. I'm sure she's very cute and would make a fantastic pet, but there's just no need to produce more cresties from her. I mean it would be one thing if it was a rather rare species, but cresties are everywhere and there are thousands upon thousands still looking for homes.
