i have an Irian Jaya x Jaguar Carpet python and i would like to know some things about her if anyone can help with this subject its greatly apreciated.

im curious about how big will she get bc an IJ is usually small about 4-6 ft. and a Coastal gets between 7 - 10 ft. well a jag is a morph of a coastal so id guess it would get the same size but should i expect my IJxJag to be inbetween the two sizes?

im also curious how to tell how pure she is i know what the breeder told me but he also said they were all clean w/o mites and well that wasnt true. i cant upload pics now bc she is in the process of shedding but i can post pics as soon as she has shed.

thanks Logan

Yes I would expect her to be 6-7 ft tops. It's possible she could get a bit bigger, but unlikely. What % did the breeder tell you she is?

And I hear you with breeders and mites, can be real frustrating. In their defense, some of them have a lot of animals coming into and going out of their collection and even the best preventative measures will sometimes fail. Luckily, mites are easy to deal with.

Imho a breeder should never sell a snake with mites or RI. Thats a petshops job :)
But seriously a breeder should know if he has these issues in his brood and if he is buying and selling animals that he is not breeding then he is a dealer not a breeder. Also a good breeder fixes the issue if it's their fault. Not all breeders are created equal.

To judge the snakes size is a vit of a crap shoot. Saying bigger than an IJ smaller than a coastal is the only safe statement. We need pics :)

The only way to be sure about lineage for Carpet Pythons is to ask the breeder.

You can not tell visually how much % IJ vs Coastal is in your snake.

Somewhere between Coastal and IJ is really the best guess at this point. But don't worry too much about size, Carpets are generally thin snakes, and are easy to handle for their length...

First off it doesn't really matter how pure the snake is as since it has been crossed those genes will never go away no matter how many generations it is bred.

Secondly the size issue isn't a simple matter of "somewhere in the middle" as again we are talking genetics. Whatever genes are more dominant will dictate the size.

if it was a pure Coastal Jaguar used in the breeding,to a pure Irian Jaya, then your snake is.....

50% coastal

50% irian jaya

it is not a pure Carpet but a carpet cross

re size
anything from 4ft to 10ft (most likely 5 to 7 ft though mate)

your snakes colouring up nicely

cheers shaun
