Believe it or not, no.

A water dragons main "defense" is water. They hang above bodies of water incase of predators, they dive and sink at the bottom until its safe.

My male is rarely in the water, only to dive and take a shot at the fish in there lol

The pair, I've yet to see them in the water, but they use it. Notice how its right under their basking spot? Security, and increase in humidity. Evaporation on large amounts of water is key.

So it's been a month now, with the young pair, and both war and grow like weeds, 20 crickets a day each, and they've grown 2" in length.

You can see how well they're eating, this was twig a month ago.

so after a year they say water dragons will wean their diet down... Not for this guy.

He cranks 25-30 crickets, and 3-4 nightcrawlers daily.

I read it somewhere on tricias site I think. Anywho, this is her diet sheet. I know its a rough guide, but just another reason why I think her site is bogus.

The diet of Chinese water dragons (lizard, insect, cricket, meal worm, earthworm, pinkie, fuzzie, fish, vitamin, mineral, calcium) (http://www.triciaswaterdragon.com/diet.htm)

Mine are pigs! Mine won't eat live fish but they love shrimp. They'll eat any bug I throw in, except those beetles that superworms turn into (I haven't found anything that eats those). Also, I feed them hopper mice. They love mice the best.

yeah, I don't think her diets are accurate.

I'd love to see your dragons and setup, wildside.

My guys loves fish, he goes crazy, here is a video lol

Water Dragon, Banana's For Fish. - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvA7dghIhoU&feature=g-upl)

I've stopped feeding superworms to all my animals, they're not really beneficial,

The monitors get rats, nightcrawlers and fish. THe dragons get crickets, nightcrawlers, fish, and pinky rats.

Thats about it for now, I'm trying to find a good source for shrimp, snails etcs.

Best source for shrimp is the grocery store :D

My setup is nothing fancy. Just a 125 gal tank with two perches and a big water dish. I don't post many pics of them because they have issues from previous owners. I kinda "rescued" them, but I don't like to wave the "I rescued a herp" flag because I didn't really know what I was doing when I took them on. I've gotten two successful clutches out of them though. Fresh hatched baby cwd's are the cutest critters ever. I'll post a few pics after while or tomorrow.

You will want to watch very very very closely when it comes time to lay eggs. The males stay on top of them and then try to eat the eggs.

BTW not sure if you know but their bite, kills! Rayden got a hold of me one day and it was like having a tiny pit bull jerking on my hand.

I've only been bitten by my adult out of feeding response, It was a stinger.

I caught a few latches from my monitors, and its certainly not fun lol.

I have yet to post my adult enclosure on this forum I think, But I have a monster tank in the works lol

7' long, 7' tall, and 3' deep. I'll be working on it this weekend, maybe I'll post it up...

Nice dragons, Ashame about their snouts though, Too bad you couldn't have stepped in sooner.

Have you thought about switching to a deeper dirt/sand mix substrate? it works wonders for humidity.

Here are some pics of my two, Both have a steady appetite, both are very forwarding at feeding time, charging me every time. Its too the point where they just take turns dipping from the bowl lol

20-25 crickets each daily.

Common with poor calcium intake, their jaws don't develop fully, or snout rub/mouth rot issues, leaving them with blunt faces. And my male isn't done growing, still a baby lol He'll get thicker still.

So do you not have to worry about them breeding when housed together?

It may seem cruel, but I'm not comfortable letting babies go, just to be housed improperly and be tortured.

So my goal is just to get the egg laying process down pat, then I will most likely feed the developed, fertile eggs to the monitors. A treat for them, and no strain on the female dragons.
