So as you know I have a babyish corn and he has been having shedding problems even though all of his care is correct. I seriously cannot figure out what is wrong. I have looked on many sites for anwsers but cannot find them. Nothing is helping. He has gone through 5 sheds with me now and everytime I have had to help him get it off.
Somthing is wrong with the hysbandry.

Yup got to be something wrong. List your temps and humidity levels. Heat source and cage type. Your missing something.

where are the humidity/temperature gauges located in the cage? ground level? towards the top? humid hide?

Cmon Garter - you know we need more info to help you :)
Do you provide a humid hide at all? My corns seem to use theirs alot :)

I do NOTHING for my corn. He gets no added humidity ever and always sheds fine. I am guessing stress or something else is wrong.

When my corn was little (and in a screen-topped glass aquarium), he had one poor shed. After that I covered the lid with a towel and started misting every other day when he went blue, and he never had a problem after that.
When I moved to college, money and space were both scarce, so I moved him to a Rubbermaid tub set-up and he's had flawless sheds without any intervention ever since. We really need to have more information about your set-up. If you are using a glass terrarium, I would seriously consider moving to a tub or, at the very least, covering the lid with a towel and misting occasionally when he goes blue. Also, be very wary of anything less than an industrial strength humidity gauge or thermometer. The cheapo-depot ones you get at PetSmart are notoriously inaccurate.

My corn snake had bad sheds for a while, so I got her a humid hide. After a couple good sheds I took it out and all of her sheds have been fine since.

Sorry I haven't been on but his hot side tempature is 80-85 usually stays around 85. Cold side is 70-75 and I don't have a humidity gauge but I have a water bowl a moist hide and when he is in shed I spray him once a while. He eats well usually but when he is in shed he refuses to eat so I stopped trying to feed him in she'd after the second time... That's pretty much it anything else you want to know ill be glad to tell you.... Hope that helps.... Very open to suggestions

Do you use a lamp on a screen for heat?
What type of substrate?
Dies the snake prefer the warm or cool side?

No I use a heat pad and I use aspen.... I also don't really see him on one side or the other more it just kind of depends on the day and stuff....

If he's not shedding and you don't have a humidity gauge, that's probably a pretty good place to start.

What is your ambient humidity where you live? Corns are pretty hardy creatures but if you live somewhere particularly dry then it could be the issue :)

I live in alberta but I do spray him every once in a while.... If I really need to get a humidity gauge I will but I'm trying to avoid getting one.

darlin Alberta is bad for low humidity, you DO need to go get a gauge to monitor that. It is most likely your problem.

Oh crap I had no idea I thought it was fine.... I'll have to go get a humidity gauge this weekend then.

yup, as quick as possible, I've done Edmonton in winter, and it is DRY!! you don't feel it as you were raised there!! Take my word though, it's going to end up being the humidity!!

Ok I will definitely do that... I have just heard so many times I didn't need one and didn't really think that the humidity in where you lived changed it

^^^^^^^ yes ^^^^^^^
well in most places its not so important with corns, here in BC I dont use them for my corns, but again, I've been where you live, and I felt the dryness in the air, had to constantly apply moisturizer and lip balm to stop my skin from cracking and bleeding, so definately very low humidity there.

Thats because a/c pulls the moisture out of the air. In the dead of winter we drop out to 20% here. Best solution is to run a humidifier in the room your snakes are in 24/7 if you suspect issues. This keeps it constant instead of bouncing from 20 to 90% when you mist.

see here, it rains 8-9 months of the year, so our humidity stays pretty high year round!

Our humidity inside is about 5% less than outside but it never drops below 50% inside our house.
Garter - i think you have been told not to worry about humidity with corns because of their natural range and hardiness but it does sound like you live in a particularly dry area so its worth taking the effort to ensure you keep the snakes humidity right :)

Thanks Shaun but really I shouldn't be cut any slack because I am a little bit younger... I still should have got it first thing when I figured out he was having shedding problems. I just heard so many times that humidity with corns doesn't matter if ou have a water dish and a humid hide that it stuck in my head. I almost lost my common sense in that way...

Dont beat yourself up too much, its a small, totally understandable error that you are now going to put right. Noone got hurt and you will never forget in the future :)
