I have a query which i wondeer if anyone else has experienced.

Since my GTP has moved into his new viv his highest perch is 15 inches above the floor level of the viv. He did spend some tme "perching" on the wire that goes to his heat bulb at first and fed on there a couple of times.

Because i wanted him using the branchees i raised the hot end temps overr about six weeks by 4f and he now uses all the viv, but he hasnt eaten in 9 weeks.

Could this be because his perch isnt as high as it used to be (his old viv had a perch at 26inches)? Has anyone else experienced this at all?

In order to provide him with other options i am planning on installing another perch at 20inches before his next scheduled feed and if that doesnt solve it i may return his temps to the original and see if that works.

I am well aware this could be just breeding fasting as he is now coming up to three years old and completely through his colour change. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar experience :)

Hmm if he is a he than it might be a breeding fast. If you can mount all the wire or cable on the celling of the cage so that he don't have any wire to perch, for some reason I believe gtp want a little cooler instead of too warm.

Do you think that the reason he isn't eating is due to you raising the temps? He might like it cooler than you have it set and is now refusing to eat. I would drop the temps down a bit and see if he will eat then.

I am leaning towards the temp change being the issue, have returned the thermostat to the old settings and will see how that goes. Think i am gonna put a higher "cold" perch in for him too and see how it goes.

Am not concerned about him as much as curious if anyone else has experienced perch/feeding issues :)

imo it could be because its heading into breeding season Rob

a friend of mine has a GTP that goes off its food for 4 to 6 months of the year,if he lets it lock up with a female

yours may be pining for a mate ;)

re heat
imo if it was too hot, then you would find your GTP in the coolest part of its tank 24/7,but if yours is using the whole tank to thermoregulate,i don't think heating is the problem mate

I agree with Kat on the culprit being the temp change. I have a friend that found the temps in his GTP enclosure were a couple degrees less than the preferred standard so he raised them accordingly and his snake went off feed until he changed it to the original configuration

Interesting to see all the comments here as i will be moving my GTP from a 12x12x18 to a 24x18x24 viv. I'll have it running for a week or so i can fine tune the temps before i put her in, I'll post how things go.
