For us here on the North Eastern coast of the US, hurricane Sandy is going to be a serious problem. Just spent 6 hours setting up generators and 3 huge 800 gallons per minute trash pumps and numerous sum pumps so my house does not lose power or get flooded out. Now I have to spend hours packing up snakes and lizards. Awesome!!!! Not really.
I will be taking pictures of the madness as me and my two neighbors man the pumps. LOL. This is not going to be good.
The only good thing that will come out of this is that being that I am in the home improvement business, the phone will be ringing off the hook after the storm.

Sending good safe thoughts your way.. I hope it's not that bad but we have our generator set up and ready to go as well as some emergency stuff. I am not in a flood zone so I should be ok with that.

I really am hoping for the best outcome for all of you guys! At least there's been this much warning time. I'll just be over here on the California coast waiting for the big earthquake to throw me into the ocean *lol*

If you need to house some of your hogs I have a sweet place ;)
Be safe and throughout the ordeal, just think of the silver lining of your pockets after the storm...

Good luck and hope you, your family, and animals are safe!
Being semi-experienced with hurricanes, a cat 1 isn't too bad. Depending upon how far inland you are will play a huge part of how much damage is possible. I would expect a power outage for 1-5 days, mainly due to fallen trees and power lines. How quickly your power gets restored will depend upon how prepared your light company is and how quickly they can repair the damage. Even if you aren't in a flood zone, I would sandbag doorways and board up windows if possible. You can only do so much to prepare for a hurricane. It's one of those things you just have to ride out and see what happens. Prepare for the worst, but hope for the best.
I have all the NE coast in my thoughts as Sandy runs through.

I think Cedar City will be just below the sea level, and Provo will get the beach just a drive down to Nephi

I hope you, your family, and animals are alright! Sandy was worse than I anticipated. But from what I understand, she hit a cold front and it spun her up more. :(

Psh, cedar's a mile above sea level =P St George and vegas are toast for sure, though! =D

I am at the hilton hotel in Staten Island. My house has been completely destroyed. I actually had to swim a cople of blocks to get out of the 10 to 12 foot flood water during the hurricane. My family and friends are all safe and I am very thankful for that. My animals are also ok although there is no power where they are being kept. Thanks to all who wished me well. I will be checking in every once in a while.

That is heartbreaking news. I truly will have thoughts with you and will ask my mother to pray for you, your family and critters. Be well, stay strong and things will turn for the better in time.

Gregg I'm sorry to hear you were hit so badly. Thank God you were smart enough to take preventative measures prior to the storm. Hopefully the insurance companies will get moving quickly to help all of you get settled.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the good wishes and prayers.
The power is back on where the reptiles are housed and they are all alive and well. I lost most of what I own in this devistation but not nearly as much as what some other people lost. Some people died and lost family members in the area. My heart goes out to those people, their family and friends. There is nothing more valuable than the people we love.
Sorry to hear of the awful ordeal you and your family have had to go through just glad to hear that you are all ok. Good luck with rebuilding your lives and I hope it gets done swiftly.

I lost a lot in this storm to... I live(ed) in a basement apartment and it flooded. This storm was really bad. I lost a Venezuelan Sun Tiger in this to. I have P. Metallica that I'm keeping a live with hand warmers. My friend is taking it to his house tomorrow where he has power and its warm.
Damn Greg, I'm so sorry to hear that. Nothing anyone can say will make it better, but if you didn't know - your government doesn't care about you. (at all) I hope life can return to normal for you as soon as possible.

The ironic part is that one of the biggest issues in the entire debate is about our country's debt...
