beardies at shows question

I have seen at reptile shows bearded dragons with different color paint or maker spots on their backs or base of tail. I believe the breeders use this to identify them or something of the like. I am wondering what it is they use to put the dots on? Is it a paint or marker and what kind? I would like to know because I am thinking it would help me in keeping daily records with my ackies. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

We do that at the shop I work at, its just a nontoxic paint to help keep track of who is male female and sold.
