View Full Version : Carpet Python Escaped!!!!
I got a new 75% diamond carpet yesterday. I put it in the Viv like usual. I saw it last night before I went to sleep. It somehow moved the sliding glass door and escaped. Anyone have tips on best places to look for a loose snake?

Look everywhere even the places you do not think it could be most of the time they dont go very far from their enclosures good luck
Well my basement now looks like I was robbed. I've overturned everything. She may have climbed into my dropped ceiling. I don't think she would have tried to make it outside bc it was in the low 40's here and I have the coal furnace burning in the basement. Ill keep looking.

i really hope you find her mate
i once found a jungle down the back of another tank, wrapped around the probe cable

I have locks on them. Turns out there was some substrate stuck in the channel where the glass sets into. I though it was closed all the way, but the substrate left a gap just large enough I guess. Blows my mind how a 3' plus snake was able to fit through such a small gap.

it never ceases to amaze me how little a gap and snake can escape through mate
i hope she turns up soon

Make some bottle traps and put them around the basement to try and catch him. Good luck I hope he turns up soon.
Thanks everyone. She still hasn't turned up yet.
Haha, good luck finding her! At the pet store, the carpet ALWAYS gets lose, and they don't know how...always find it in the bird cages, super full. haha.
I just found the sneaky SOB. I left a few ceiling blocks removed so I could have quick access to looking. About an hour after the lights went out I came back down with a flashlight and saw her peaking out. I wuickly grabbed the step stool and made the catch. I can rest easy again.

Congrats always a good feeling to find a snake when you lose it!

Yes, it was quite a good feeling. I was shocked and relieved to see her.
Houdini struck again and escaped for a 2nd time. I really have no clue how she got out this time. Since her first escape I have filled any sort of gap with silicone. I even checked the lock last night to make sure it was good and secure because I opened the cage earlier in the day to change the water. I'm really frustrated right now.

Double check the cage i seen them hide in a corner wedge at the top of the cage before. I was freaking out looking around the snake room when i glanced over to see her trying to get out the open cage door.

you need to go over her tank inch by inch.....
i had a hatchling jungle in a plastic exo terra faunarium, they have little plastic spars along the top of the sides, used as ventilation, one of the spars was broken at the bottom, but to look at appeared in tact, sneaky jungle was pushing the bottom of the spar out at night,so he could escape
check the vents as well mate
also check where the glass sliding doors sit in their runners, could she be sliding out between the doors where they meet in the middle of the tank ?
night time is a good time to find them, sit quietly in the dark,do 1 room per hour or two,LISTEN for noise, they make quite a racket, plodding about the house
i hope you find her mate
cheers shaun

Wow! I wish you alot of luck! Seems like shes a sneaky one.
I found Houdini today after nearly 5 weeks on the run. She was inside an old folded up tent in my basement. I was doing some cleaning and found her by accident really. She was super cold though and looked thinner. She also seemed to develop head wobble similar to neuro in jags. Not sure if this will go away or not as she didn't have it before the escape.
Great news you found her. Hopefully the head wobble is nothing serious and she is ok for you
