Well as you may or may not know, Brampton has a ridiculous law of no Boas or Pythons allowed, AT ALL. Well I really want this changed, and am looking for your help. Maybe we could start something to try and get it changed?

Where's Brampton? I don't remember.. I DID almost fail Grade 9 geo :D Oh well.. If it's in Ontario or if I can help I definitely will... Plus I have an uncle in........ alberta or manitoba or saskatchewan or something, so if Brampton's there I'll get him to try to help... I think I've been to Brampton, too

lol

Ottawa's laws used to be the same until the 1st of January this month .. what happenned is that there was lots of discussion between the local reptile zoo and local reptile association and many talks and eventually it got some what resolved ..

So basicaly, maybe the formation of a local herp group and added pressure on the politicians might be able to get some balls rolling although trust me this will not be effective anytime soon .. it took Ottawa a good yearof debate and even after it was decided an other long period to actually implement the new by-laws..

Remember there bylaws .. they only will act on an infraction if they get a complain .. I have kept pythons in Ottawa for several years even though b4 theu were no legal but if no one complains then no one gets in troubl .. Even some by-law officers knew I had some (like a ball python) and they were more intrigued by it then anything

Hope this helps
Dom

That is exactly what I did for my BP lol however if he gets taken away well, it would really suck. Plus I would like to start a collection. I tried contacting Reptilia via e-mail but got no response from Josh. Does anyone have his phone number?

Here ya go.
Phone Number 905-761-6223 Fax Number 905-761-6590

the more people (specially businesses) you get involved in the community the more likely you'll have good results. Money talks. Petition the petstores. You probably won't see instantanious results but you need to be dedicated, and also show why it would be benificial to the community (the key is money) and not harmful (people are needlessly afraid of snakes). Show how some other cities are dealing with the snakes (Toronto limits all boids to under 9', Ottawa has similar laws).

Do the "authorities" give you a reason for this law, or is it just fear of the unknown? Love to help if i can, just ask.

Well I was in Super Pet getting crickets for my beardies and veild and someone who worked for the City of Brampton happened to stop by for the same reason. I figured I'd ask why they have the stupid law, and apparantly it is because THIRTY years ago someone was choked and killed by a large burmese. Ridiculous if you ask me...

So sad how one persons irresponsible actions can ruin it for everyone :(

Look at it this way. The bi-law's in toronto are 3 meters for a snake. How many people in Toronto own retics, burms, anacondas etc. I believe the law for lizards is 2 meters, and you've got god knows how many iguanas, and monitors.

Be a responsible pet owner, and i highly highly doubt you'll have any problems whatsoever. If you live in a rented dwelling, if your landlord comes in just cover up the animals.. He/she isnt allowed to snoop through your belongings. Trust me you wont have problems as long as you continue to be a responsible pet owner.

also that story about the burm killing some bloke 30 yrs ago is likely to be fabricated

Yea but they seem pretty serious here. I mean they still allow pet stores to sell burmese, retics, and anacondas in Toronto. In Brampton, they have take every Python and Boa from each store, pretty stupid. Just happened recently. Hey Paul, thanks a lot for contacting him for me. If you don't mind, could you ask him if there is anything I can do to help him

Gino, its the same thing here. If the OSPCA comes into any store and sees anacondas, trust me they'll be made to get rid of them.
We had a few reps come in and tell us to get rid of our scorpions and spiders.. We had 48 hours to do so.
