View Full Version : set-up feedback please

Hi, this is my set up for my Rogers racer. I have a heat side, cool side and the temps/humidity are in the ranges they should be. I have an uth, the lamp on the tank is just for basking, and isnt on all day. the snake is a baby, so it can easily hide under the water dish on the cool side. the snake is very active and spends equal time throughout the tank.any suggestions or feedback is more than welcome.

Moved this to the general colubrid section.
All I can recommend (as a non-colubrid person) is that the sticky wall-mounted temperature gauge you have in there isn't very safe. If your snake gets it unstuck, the adhesive can then get stuck to his scales, which can be very tricky to remove. I would remove it.
Thank you.I wasnt sure where to post.As for the gauge, it came with the tank, but im replacing it as soon as the order i put in for digital ones with suction cups comes in on Tuesday. I had read somewhere that the needles in gauges like that can "freeze" in one place and you won't get a proper reading, that why i'm replacing. But thank you, i hadnt thought of the glue issue.

Looks good! I'd add some branches for him to climb :)
Those gauges are probley good when they are made, just dropping them once is enough to mess with the Calibration. If you keep more then one herp I strongly recomend an infared thermometer gun. You can get various temps through out your entire enclousure within a few minutes.

You can get a nice digital thermometer/hygrometer at Wal mart for about $12

Thank you. I'm planning on adding a strawberry planter pot and some blueberry branches that i cut and prepped. I had been holding off on the branches until i knew they were safe for my snake.
l'll update with another pic when i add them.
I'm adopting a rescue cali king on saturday. He is coming with his whole set-up. The two snakes are plenty for me right now. If my little family grows, the gun will be a future purchase.

Thanks. I ordered them through dr fostersmith online, im getting them for about that price too.I use dr fostersmith for cat/dog supplies monthly and get free shipping because of the amt i buy, so it was easier this way.
Your set up does look good but I'll agree with the stickyness if that thing comes off! Glad you'll be investing in the gun :) can't wait to see it all with the branches inside
Two quick pics with pot and branches inside.
