Don't know if any of you have come across this yet, but I found it quite fascinating.
BBC News - Black mamba venom is 'better painkiller' than morphine (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19812064)

Well I'd figure they wouldn't give you the venom straight, Kingsnake. :P I'm sure they will eventually find a way to manipulate the parts of the venom that produce the painkillers, and extract it directly or find a way to duplicate it. Just my thoughts. :)

Lol I wonder what they will say when they think they got that figured out.... "okay, were pretty sure its not venom anymore but I should warn you it WAS black mamba venom...." LOL

I agree with what Kaetlin said. I think there wouldn't be any actual "venom" present once they've refined it, just the pain-killing component.
I hope they can succeed in separating it from the venom, it may help a lot of long-term pain sufferers in the future.

I agree with that but feel bad for the human test bunnies that they practice on....

I guess I'm very fortunate that I don't suffer from long-term excessive pain. I do have sciatica, and it's a 'pain' pardon the pun, but only when it flares up. What is the ailment that causes you to require such strong pain meds (if you don't mind me asking)? You've probably said previously on the forum but I haven't seen it.
My brother-in-law is always in extreme pain (severe scoliosis), and he is allergic to almost every medication out there :( The only one he can take is a super narcotic that makes him high, which he really doesn't like to take. So sad to watch him try to get through life with such pain and difficulties.
Anyway, hopefully this painkiller can be brought into the market, especially since it apparently has minimal side-effects. Maybe it can help some people.

I have injuries I sustained in the Army. It was really bad last year but has been improving
I have a crushed disc in my back and a fractured disc on top of my whole spine being compressed, they had me on quite a bit of pain meds on a daily basis but I had my procedure and they basically put spacers in my spine so it helped a lot. Still hurts but its much more bearable

I can't even imagine that kind of pain. What a terrible thing for anyone to have to go through. :Wow: My dad would understand, he fell off a ladder (landed on his feet!) and compress-fractured his spine. Also crushed his wrist during the fall.
He is actually shorter than he used to be. (lost 1 inch in height)

I was cycling and hit by a pickup, damaged only soft tissue and nerves in my knee, hip, pelvis, back, ribs and shoulder. Also had rotational whiplash as my right shoulder wrenched to the right and my left leg wass wrenched to the left. The accident also triggered fibromyalgia and hypersensitivity so oretty much everything hurts all the time. Some days i cant even wear clothing as the feel of anything touching my skin is agony.
after my first ever kidney stone about 6 mo ago, i would've agreed to ANYTHING to stop the pain. Prob even straight mamba venom!

Wow Rob, I truly sympathize. Is it somthing that you have to live with or is there any plans on fixing anything?
