View Full Version : What are these??
Hey I don't know much about lizards, so this might be in the wrong section. But i saw these at a pet store today and they caught my eye. They weren't labeled, and when I asked the guy what they were he said he'd go find out...But he was obviously the "reptile" guy - Shouldn't he know? Shouldn't they be labeled? Anyway I walked out when he went to find out. The pictures aren't the greatest, through dirty glass on a cellphone.

The first one is a true fire skink, and the second is a Uromastyx sp.
Thanks everyone, The first one did look pretty lethargic. But I do like the color, as for the second one...If I was going to tell a 10 year old what it was I wouldn't say Uromastyx...So, lol....In layman's terms?? And whats up with the tail, is that esthetic, or used for defense, or what? I have quite a few snakes on my wish list, and lizards are creeping up on me...Oh no..

Lol its all good, its one of those weird names that seems way more complicated than it should be
First is a fire skink, second is a uromastyx he looks either dying or in shed (ive never seen one in shed)
Stab in the dark, "Yer-O-mas-sticks" <---My best phonetic spelling. Is that about right?

I like to think of it as "Euro-mas-tix". The reference to Europe always helped me. And I believe that tail can be used to whip.
