View Full Version : Where is your snake's favorite place on you?

I just took out my BRB Aphrodite, and she instantly went to her favorite spot, the inside of my sleeve. She is about the same length of my arm, and she just settles right up against it and stops moving until I take her out, I think she falls asleep even! It's probably cause its dark and toasty, poor girl is not gonna be happy when she is too big to fit! So I started thinking about where my other snakes like to go when they are on me.
Medusa my adult ball python loves my shoulders/head, he curls up in my hair.
Dante my male KSB loves to just chill in my hand, whereas Beatrice my female will get into any pocket she can.
Columbus, my western hognose doesn't really like being taken out but he is pretty content to stay in my hand when I take him out.
Beloved my cornsnake is always all over the place when I take her out, so I don't think she has a favorite spot!
Has anyone else noticed their snakes or other herps gravitating to a certain area on you whenever you take them out?

Mario my dwarf boa like to lie around my shoulders with his face on my cheek.. Strange I know :D
Sasha my BRB will always chill in my lap with my legs crosed.
April my baby bci shills on my wrist and in my jacket pocket lol :)
And finally Cyril, my corn... Well he goes wherever he likes which is usually him attempting to escape. He hates me but I love him anyway :D

Oh, my Corn also demands I put him in the little "book shelf" on my bed when I'm cleaning his cage. It contains my games, but he ALWAYS knocks them over so it creates a nice little hide... then he just chills in there

When my snakes aren't getting into everything like a couple of little kids or puppies, Cloud (my boa) prefers to sit on top of my head. Bud (my ball python) pretty much doesn't sit still, so there's no favorite spot on me for him. Cloud doesn't like to be set down on flat things, even if I offer things for him to wrap around (excluding his enclosure as I add hills and valleys for him).

Both of mine prefer to slither off my body and explore the surrounding area. They both will settle to be between my legs though.

Nom Nom (king) likes to wrap herself around my fingers and hand. The royals like to lay on the back of my neck. The redtail (BCI) likes to anchor herself around my wrist and lays on my arm like it's a tree branch or something lol. When I first got the dumerils, they both loved to wrap up in my hair but they're bigger so they can't do that anymore. Halo The Friendly Carpet doesn't have a favorite spot as long as she can climb all over me and hang off trying to reach places she doesn't need to be lol. The burms both like to hang off one shoulder and they NEVER anchor themselves which forces me to hold them so they don't fall (when I'm standing). Not that they would actually hurt themselves. They can reach the floor and still have a good bit of their body over my shoulder. Most times when my big girls are out, I allow them to roam a bit in my room (with me watching them and only one at a time). Alot of times when they're done being nosy, they'll crawl up in my lap or at least come back to me and crawl over me like I'm some sort of jungle gym for them lol.

Same here... my snakes seem to prefer to stay in their cages.
Maybe that's why I like cranky B'stards, less temptation to handle.

My Royal will either settle in my lap, wrap himself around my wrist and hand (which can be a bit heavy and tiring at times), or settle on a blanket.
My Sand Boas will also wrap themselves around my wrists or hands, make their way into the sleeves of my hoodie, or they also like to make their way up my shirt and make themselves right at home...

If I had long hair maybe they'd go there. For now they're favourite spot is the other tub I use to hold them while I clean.

If I take mine out at all they normally find their way into my cleavage and hide in the warmth.

Fluffy my ball python will chill on my lap no probem.
Spot my carpet python likes to keep going up, but, if he's not actually on me, he'll try to sneak away every time I turn around...

My BP usually wraps around my hand or tries to get anywhere dark.
My Rosy Boa will chill on my lap, but usually he is very inquisitive and will try to tangle himself in my hair (what a nightmare!) or just get into general mischief.

My BCI has a tendency to wrap around my right arm, loop around my back and rest its head on my left shoulder. I can often feel its cold and slow breath against my face.
Pajamas likes to wrap around my waist and rest over my shoulder, and Oliver loves my lap =3

either my wrist or the top of my head, but they usually support themselves on my glasses.

50 shades of grey with reptiles... Awesome.
If I were a snake those would be the places I would be hangin out. LOL...
But seriously, my snakes prefer their rack bins. I do not handle them too often. Just enough to get them used to being moved during cleaning. The hognose snakes are easy to work with. The carpets on the other hand have a huge feed response and usually strike first before they realize there is no food. Once out, they are pretty chill but try to climb off me to get to anything they can reach.
Our Varanids are almost never handled and prefer their spacey caging. I can care less if they "trust" me or not. All we worry about is keeping them properly to the point that they are healthy, thriving, and breeding.

Personally, I start to worry when I see a reptile heading for my "private areas"
One quick munch, and explaining yourself to the doctors is going to be a challenge in itself.

I quite simply don't have the time. And with babies around (and being a mild germaphobe), anytime I mess with the animals, I have to immediately wash and sanitize my hands afterwards. So if I'm sitting on the couch with the snake in my lap, and then the wife suddenly hollars for me to help do something with one of the kids, I got put the snake up, go wash my hands, then go to the task at hand.
Its just a lot of hassle to have them out like I used to when I was single and young, so I just don't bother messing them much any more.

I think I take my snakes out once a month. More to do a basic clean of the viv and look them over but I do enjoy spending a few minutes with them just hanging out. The only one I never handle is my GTP I love him but he loves to nom on me when given a chance.

My CA king has a metabolism that forces me to handle him every other day. It's a question of me not being able to handle the smell. He also takes a dim view on spot cleaning.

For my really cranky "I kill you" snakes, I give them a rodent to chew on while I move them to a poly tote for spot cleaning and water changes.
I won't even reach into my black racer cage unless he's got food in his mouth first.

Oh, I hear ya. This king is the only one that has truly tried to constrict me. At first you wonder what a king snake can do, and then you're unpleasantly surprised.
But be that as it may, we have formed some form of truce. Simply reaching in is still not a good idea. After a few minutes of seeing me he starts to move, turn away from me, and I can gently pick him up with two hands.
He is getting big, too. He's now on small to medium-sized rats. Twice a week, or he will get cranky.
The only "I will kill you" snake I held was a King Rat Snake. It was pure evil.

My bigger Dums and Macks all like to ride my shoulders. The smaller snakes all prefer to rest in my hand except the Corns and the little Macks. They keep exploring everywhere they can but I dont let them slither off of me. Sometimes however, Schatzi and Hellboy both will keep themselves warmer by going inside my shirt and resting there.
