Legality of shop selling garters in MI

Hey guys and gals, I've been itching lately to get a garter or two, because I've always loved them and used to have one. But I've called a few places and theyre quick to say they have no garters, and noticed that the shop where I got my old garter years ago has had an empty enclosure marked for garters for a while. My mom told me this morning that back when I got my first one, another pet store told her they were illegal to sell or have, which reminded me of some law about native snakes as pets. I've done some searching, but haven't found a much on the legality of shops selling captive b&b garters. Am I out of luck? I appreciate the help!

Also, I've found a website, "blackwaterreptiles" that sells reptiles. Has anyone dealt with them before? Thanks again!

Here is the deal with Garter snakes, Many states have these "laws" but are unable to tell what range the subspecies are from.

Not sure if you are looking for "cheap" or not.

Also, I just recently read somewhere (Facebook post, it may have been, but I am not sure of the legitimacy of it) that it's illegal to purposefully kill snakes in MI...
