I know that the boa pic and the black and yellow banded king snake is. The boa died. IIRC, both incidents have the same reason. Essentially both were fed in an enclosure too small for them. They were fed and still in feed mode when their perhaps touched their tails to their face and tried to eat themselves. The king snake's owner saw it fairly quickly and rushed him to a vet that was able to extract the lower part of the animal out of it's mouth. The boa's owner, however, didn't discover his until the next morning after feeding. By then it had died, more than likely due to the digestive system had begun to digest itself.
Knowing those two are real, the others probably are. However, I think it's a rare occurrence.
The brace one is photochopped, btw :p

i don't think the pictures of snakes eating themselves are bad, they're educational,in showing just how stupid snakes can be
i had a kingsnake that would tag its own tail 4 or 5 times per year
cheers shaun

i find it really hard to digest (woah bad humor there) that the snakes ate themselves to death. I mean, they *can* regurgitate. And stomach acid wouldn't like, eat through their tails right away.
Also any snake if it can't get the prey down all the way, does eventually give up. That's just soooo weird.
as for the snake braces one, firstly i thought it was gross. Secondly, i noticed that someone actually took the time to put the proper brace on the tooth that needed the attachment for a rubber band.
Then i realized that since the whole tooth section was photoshopped that it was probably already on that tooth from the original pic.
i thought way too hard about that *lol*

lololol. I know I never thought a snake could eat itself to death either. I guess it's possible though given how strong their stomach acid actually is (non-chewers) or maybe they suffocated. It looks like those got so far down it may have been impossible to give up and then escape their own recurved teeth. Who's thinking hard now huh?

ooh good point. curved teeth! I am not sure what species other than hognose have those though.
I thought they had that tube thing in their mouth that pops out so they can breathe when they're swallowing big stuff?
but, i'm not saying it didnt' happen i'm just like...wow if it did it probably cleaned up the gene pool lol

I thought they all had recurved teeth. Yeah they have a tube but from the pics it would seem when they get in a certain position from eating themselves they wouldn't be able to adjust enough to keep from blocking the tube.

Wow thats kinda sad and why would such a self suffient animal continue to eat itself? I dont doubt it but wow!

Aaaaaaaaaaaand back to the funny!
I had a kingsnake a few years back that was absolutely one of THE MOST voracious feeders I have ever seen. In this first scene, she had captured my finger. I rolled the glove off of my finger, but she still held on! I FINALLY got her to let go when I dunked a q-tip in Listerine and held it next to her face.

Same snake. This time, a wooden dowel I was putting in her viv as something for her to climb on...

ALWAYS handle large constrictors with more than one person.

Hi Shaun, i`v got a Cali Kingsnake but i`v never seen him tag himself and hopefully won`t see him trying to eat himself, is this happen often with Cali`s and is there a reason why ?
I agree the photo`s being educational as i`v never seen this before.
Thank`s to the OP for posting
Cheers :)

Saw that picture with a different caption and didn't think it was funny because of it. What you write is really what makes or breaks it haha Especially when I try to read it in my head like a reticulated python would if he could talk :S

LOL! Typical Kingsnake. Mine tried to constrict itself.
My Corn Snake literally tied itself into a knot while being handled, and wasn't able to undo what had been done. I had to help her lol
