Hi I have only had snakes for 6 months I have a royalwhich I love and bought a red tail boa which I believe is 2 yet when I went to my reptile shop he said she is severely under fed, so will be fattening her up.

She will plump up in due time just dont over feed her its easy to do on a snake thats underweight before you know it you have a lazy overly fat snake

Just feed slightly closer together rather than larger prey as its less stress on the snakes digestive system. Any photo's of the new boa? :D

I was told to feed her medium rats every 7 to 10 days. the guy I bought her off said she was fed medium rats every Sunday so I don't under stand how she is under fed. I will put pics up when I work out how to load them. Lol

thats what i was thinking mate,he may have a,normal,on weight, healthy boa, there, and have been given wrong advice,by the pet shop guy

as said, she may be on weight and all that is wrong is.....
you have just been given your typical wrong advice,by an ill educated pet shop assistant
imo if she was taking a medium rat every sunday as the previous owner said, then imo there's no way she can be under weight,if she's otherwise healthy, and the guys telling the truth
re posting pictures
i upload my pictures onto photobucket, then once uploaded, you just place your arrow onto the picture,a menu will pop out, click on image code...
then paste onto your post

I do not know much about Boa's . I only have royals , but one med rat a week seems a little small . My 4 year old Ball is on a large rat every 10 to 14 days . I am guessing a 2 year old RTB would be larger than mine . But again I do not keep Boa's and never have so I am not sure.

Imo I think a 2yr old rtb should easily be able to take a large rat every 2 weeks but if in doubt stick with a medium and gauge how quickly she becomes hungry again and go from there!

Thanks It's a she and I think she is stunning. I got her checked she has no mites and is healthy other than he said that she was under weight but I found out today she is 18 months old not 2 yrs so is she the normal size or smaller.
