Hello to all. I am just starting out on the road to snake education. I raise rabbits for my personal consumption as well as for my friends snakes.

I have been checking out the corn snakes in my area (at least thats what they look like) for the last year. They are fairly docile, even if only for a moment or two.

My wife won't let me have a snake in the house...yet. So, I'm stuck with observing them in nature or at a frinds house.

Well... I've rambled on enough for now.

Have fun!

Thats what my wife said too...lol. Once you get one in the house your good to go. I brought home a baby corn, now I have 2 snakes a lizard and my wife wants a ball python now. She is also a member of this site :)

Welcome to sSnakeSs.com and I hope you can change her mind.

welcome to the forums.

Good luck persuading your wife to let you have a snake. Try convincing her to let you have a pet hippo or moose, and she will find snakes much more attractive.

Tell her you want a spider instead of a snake. When she says no for like the 10,000th time tell her you'd "settle" for a snake, or even a lizard. I did that little trick. Only I actually wanted a lizard so I started looking into things like fruit bats and told her I wanted one of them (they're actually really neat still working on getting one;) , a few days later I was chatting with Beth to get my first geckos!!

welcome to the site john, good luck with getting a snake, there's many positive things for keeping snakes over other furry creatures.

1) no hair left around the house.
2) don't need to be let out at night.
3) don't have to teach them to not beg at the table
4) they eat once a week.
5) they only poop once a week.
6) you don't have to worry about them trying to trip you on the stairs.
7) they are very quiet. the only snakes we have that make noise are our burmese pythons, they hiss a little and other than the odd thump when they fall down while trying to escape we never hear them.
8) you get to create your own landscape for the terrarium.
9) if you forget to feed it for a week it won't mind.
10) it doesn't sleep on your face
11) you don't have to pay for lessons or for it to be "fixxed"

welcome. I'm in the same boat as you. My hubby is terrified of snakes. :( but I got him to compromise with lizards. :D

Hi and welcome!!!

Reptiles really are fantastic, once you get into them - only problem that people seem to not point out is that the hobby is an addiction - one is never enough!!! LOL! And this isn't really a forum, it's a self-help group!

Hope you get to join us in our addiction!

Hi Jon and Welcome,

My name is Soleil and I am wife to Dino (who snuck the first snake in the door while I was sleeping)! I learned through contact with the snakes to love them. Have your wife spend some time with your friend's snakes or take her to a pet store that allows you to hold their reptiles. I wouldn't recommend Dino's method, but I have learned to love the snakes too. I'm hoping to get a ball python soon, and we are going to look at another corn snake this evening.

Good luck and Welcome.

lol... I'll try to remember that. BTW.. heres my new site, please chack it out and tell me if you think the prices are right. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jdc805/ChesapeakeRabbits.html

It's getting there.. I should have my domain name soon. These prices are what I used to sell for. They may need some adjusting, but I'm trying to see if they warrant me getting started again. New breeding stock should be in soon.

Thanks again :)
