Just came back from the reptile show in Columbus. The family and I went to get a female companion for our Red Spotted Oregon Garter Snake.
- We were successful finding that female. The same vendor brought plenty of female Red Spotted Oregon Garters this time. We picked one up, younger and slightly smaller than our male. I guess I will chop up some pinkies. (Right now she is zooming around the enclosure, and he is watching and following her.) The vendor also had a couple of nice Infernalis and Pickeringii, but that's maybe for another time.
- We got some frozen rats, but I guess we were too late for the pinkies. Even my local vendor who also comes to the show didn't have any. I'm not quite out yet, but they are hard to come by at a decent price.
- Browsing around, we also picked up an Everglade Rat Snake for next to nothing, and my son wanted a young Anery Motley Corn.
Of course I also ran into my neighbor two doors down, who just bought a Florida King Snake. It surprised me a little bit, he seems to be more into Hognoses. (It's overall rather amazing how many people I recognized even just my second time at the show.) I was also pleased to see a few more smaller vendors who seemed to specialize in particular snakes, but otherwise no real surprises.
(Sorry, no pictures; as usual I had my hands full with kids, snakes and rodents.)

Okay, one picture. The Everglade Rat Snake living up to its reputation as an arboreal snake. :D It is still largely grey, not the adult red/orange. Yet you can see by the eyes the color it is eventually going to be.

Nice new additions! Make sure you quarantine all of your new reptiles.
Cool! We skipped this month. Probably hit it next month again.

Yes, I do promise to take pictures of the garter and the anery motley corn. The rat snake and the corn snake are quarantined, the garter is with my other garter. I did not separate them because they came from the same vendor. They are however separate from the rest my collection.
The rat snake ate right away, striking me three times when I reached for it. I do like the feeding response. (I'm very happy with such an ornery snake for $15.)
The corn refused a pinkie and the garter couldn't be tempted with feeder fish or a chopped up pinkie. I will try again in a few days.
Overall, I think I may be there again next month, just to talk to a few people I know and pick up some pre-ordered frozen rodents.

Sorry about the delay, and I would like to apologize for the quality of this picture, but I cannot remove my garters from their enclosure without them going all over the place, and they don't exactly hold still, either. The male is on top and the female is just peeking out from her hide.

Shucks. Everybody has been out lately! Our next show is Sunday, and I'm not too optimistic now. :-/ Last time they were out, too.

Congrats on the new snake!!! :D
Thank you. He climbs and she burrows, leaving well-defined tunnels in the aspen that very much intrigue the kids.
I'm just glad that all snakes from that show are finally eating.

Yes, I will check my local supplier between shows to see if I can get them "off cycle", so to speak.

Just a quick update on this guy. He turns out to feed very consistently, and is definitely one of the more curious snakes we have. Based on his general disposition my son named him "Striker". On some days he is trying to get anything within a 3-foot radius. Yesterday he weaved himself through my fingers and stayed there for about an hour. An interesting little guy.

Very nice... I didn't go in September but will be going to the one in October.. I'm always scared walking into that place because there are always more snakes that I want and im out of room. I'm basically just going their to stock up on f/t.

Yes, my family needs to practice more restraint. We went to buy pinkies. We ended up buying large mice plus three snakes. :D
P.S.: That reminds me, I haven't posted pictures of my anery motley corn yet.
