View Full Version : Blood python feeding
I have had a juvenile red blood python that I would say is probably about a year old and it is roughly 1.5-2 feet long (it is hard to measure her because she really doesn't like to be streched out). It is not a problem or anything but it seems that some weeks she is starving and other times she isn't. Sometimes she can eat about three adult mice per week and others it will only be one. Is there any reason for this sporadic feeding or is it just because she is not hungry?

Try small rat, my blood hate mouse. 3 adult mouse a week sound a bit too much I thinck for a 1½-2' snake. Try feed less a bit, maybe he'll get more hungry the week after.
Mine is a year old and 32". He only eat a small rat each 10-12 days.
Good luck

His blood is maybe just younger then he think.
Mine ate almost nothing the first two month. The other one they had at the pet store die a month after I got mine, wasn't in great shape.
I usualy feed one rat the size of his body and adjust the feeding with his growth, not with the age. I know he's not as fat as the other I've seen but he's still growing like mad. I think he looks great.

How often are u feeding it? maybe switch to one bigger sized rat and feed less often....
When I said that she sometime eats 3 mice I should have said that she has before. I usually don't feed her that much but one time she just seemed really hungry. I try to feed her about once a week but sometimes it is a little longer like 10 days. I don't really know how old it is. I got it from a local petstore, which may I add is really good suprisingly, and they did not know how old it was either. When I got it, it was only about a foot long though.
Andrew, if you feed the blood one appropriate size meal once every 10-14 days that should suffice. 'Appropriate size' meaning a rat that has the same girth as does the snake(at her widest part). As long as she is eating and growing I wouldn't worry about her starving. Just keep her on a regular schedule and up the size of rat as she grows. I feed my two year old once every 2 weeks and she is still growing like a weed.
