View Full Version : Questions about breeding mice or rats.
Hi everyone. I currently have a very young Cali kingsnake. She's feeding on small F/T fuzzies right now. I will be getting a baby ball python soon. Even though feeding them right now is inexpensive, would it be worth my time, effort, and money to begin breeding my own mice? Obviously there will be some cost involved in feeding and housing mice. Would mice be too small for the BP and would rats be too big for the Cali king?

I wouldn't waste your time breeding food for 2 snakes.. Your king could eat a rat pink but I would keep your royal off mice and instead only feed rats. Breeding mice you would get far more than you need, feeding and cleaning up after them is a pain in the butt. They smell and need cages to be cleaned almost every 2-3 days in order to keep the smell down.

It's definitely not worth it for only 2 snakes.

Thank you. I agree with everything you said. Honestly, I didn't even think about the amount of offspring they would produce. I'd definitely have more mice than I knew what to do with. Plus, another thought came to me. I actually enjoy going in to my local shop where I got my cali and talk with the shopkeepers about her progress.
