I was watching this guy ball up dirt, then carry it to another part of the enclosure. I have no idea why he was doing this.

I see those almost every day at my house, they remind me of the bugs in 'cloverfield'.

Likely was trying to create a burrow. :) Is it eating well for you?

I thought so initially, but it was just carrying it to the other side, and then going back to get more. Yes, it's eating like a pig.

Every time I look at this I feel like one is crawling on me so I start freaking out!
They are also known as sun spiders and they were all over the place in the Mojave desert where I was stationed. They are pretty cool to see. Scary! But cool.

then you probably don't live in a rural town surrounded by desert
My "seen everyday" claim is true from may to september, they're rare for the rest of the year.

Not at all. They are far more common than most folks realize. Various species can be found in the arid regions (deserts, scrublands, etc) on every continent except Antartica and, I believe, Australia.

cloverfield is a movie with aliens LOL
i don't like smooth insects much, they give me creepies. it's cute initially, but i could probably never have that one on me LOL i don't even know if you can hold them like you can some tarantulas. I rarely, rarely hold my T's but just BLARG to this one.
though it is cute, it's also creeps LOL
