So I have a Prairie Kingsnake as I have mentioned earlier. He/she is kept in a 10 gallon aquarium at the moment. He/she is small enough to fit in it comfortably but I'm having trouble keeping the temps right. I use one of the light things (I forget what they are called). If I put that on one side to attempt to make a warm and cool side for one makes the tank in the mid to upper 90s and two makes the whole tank the same temp. Any suggestions on how to fix this.

And if I wasn't clear just let me know and I can clarify.

Is it just a normal heat lamp or is it one of those combo ones (sorry, I forgot what they're called also) that has like 2 bulbs (one on each side) and a flourescent light? Maybe you can try replacing the bulbs with lower wattage ones.

You can go with UTH hooked up to a thermostat. That would be your best beat

Heat lamps don't work well with small aquariums they do make the tank way to hot UTH is best way to go as mentioned above!
