Hey everyone my new IJ Jaguar seems to like sitting on the side of his hide and the wall of the 10 gallon aquarium. I tried to feed him the day before yesterday with no luck. I tried feeding him f/t pinky mice. Should i try live pinky mice??? Anywho please get back to me im really worried something could be wrong?

Snakes can go along time without eating and be just fine if you recently got him it may take several weeks for him to get settled and want to eat wait a week and try again with a live pinky just to get him going good luck also keep handling to a minumim until you get several feeds in him

put hides at both sides of his tank (not directly under a heat source though),also plenty fake plants, branches, etc, this will make him feel more secure

do NOT handle him, leave him in peace and quiet, only going near him to change his water, roughly every 5 days

i would NOT attempt to feed mice, imo its best to get them onto rats right away, the older a carpet gets, the harder it can be to swap them over from mice to rats,it takes a lot of jumbo mice to feed an adult carpet mate

how long have you had him ?

what are your hot end and cool end temperatures ?

what type of heating are you using ?

cheers shaun

Perfect advice. No touching for a few weeks and no mice ever.

I would imagine a pinky mouse wouldnt even look like food to a carpet :) get him a nice sized rat and see how he goes then :)

thats a good point Rob

like Rob said,i'd try a rat weiner, the next size up from,a hairless rat pup, carpets can take large prey,3,4,5,times their girth

that said,if you have a rat pup, then you could always give it a try and see how it goes
