They are really attractive snakes. We have heard they have a personality more like a lizard than a snake. What is it that appeals to you about their personality? What makes them the most unique - there are so few people who are raising them that it would be great to get a better idea of what they are like.
thanks for the photos,

Mary.. Well, where to start?? These little guys have a very inquisitive nature, for example put a new object in their enclosure and very shortly after they have to check it out. The female that is in the picture gave me a scare once. When I took her out for a bit she gave me a good bite and wouldn't let go about 15min . Later, when she must have figured my finger was good and dead, she let go so I proceded to put her back in her cage and thats when she must have noticed a scent I left on her and started to rub, roll and generally act like a brat in her cage. I can't say that I have ever seen anthing like that before...
The male has the most excited feeding response. Once he realizes its feeding time he starts to bob up and down with his head and his tail wiggling like a kingsnake. It is so cute it kinda reminds me of an over excited puppy dog!
Womas are just a joy to keep they always keep me on my toes...
p.s(I forgot to mention once they get out of there enclosure they are well behaved, most of the time) ;)

Hi, nice Womas. Are they from Henry Piorun or Don Patterson? If they aren't from them where are they from & how much do you want for them? Come on humour me! LOL! I have a 2002 pair from Henry Piorun myself. My female has the temperment of a corn snake except she is kind of skittish. She has to be "teased" with her food everytime & isn't a very "big eater". If she had her way she would probably prefer live (she'll never get one from me though) as she almost needs to be "convinced" that it is OK to eat a dead one. Once she finally grabs it I have to leave the room or she drops it to see what I'm doing. The male on the other hand will eat everything he has ever been offered & then some. He has a pyscho-killer approach to food & will strike out at any movement once he has smelt the prey. I hate it when he strikes the glass DOH! I do not have to "tease" him thats for sure. I let him nail the first & throw in the rest & leave the room for he won't strike at the glass trying to get me. Lately hes taken to attacking me. He's not mean, he just thinks I taste yummy! He thinks he's a Kingsnake & can't be trusted while handling anymore. He has to be "hooked" first & then he does the "nose you" thing & then tries to eat my hand. It's mostly my fault for not handling him enough & I always have him hungry. This guy has nothing but appettite, but I'm trying to keep him around the same size as his sister, so he never gets enough as far as he's concerned. Both snakes are wicked cool & when they move they kind of do the sindwinder thing. They are so cool to watch move around & are really inquisitive for snakes. It's a shame that they cost a small fortune & aren't always available if you do have the "chunk of change" to spend. If anyone out there knows of or has a pair (or singles) unrelated to the Piorun/Patterson lines please contact me as I am very interested in talking to you about them. Nice snakes Ryan & Katie please feel free to contact me to discuss them. Mark IsBell - GONE SNAKEE! (403)252-2597 OR (403)708-6705

I'd like to learn more about them before I get mine, which will be right after I win the lottery!;)
How big do Womas get?
What temps and humidity do they require?
What is required husbandry wise to get them to breed?
Do they have live young or lay eggs?
Anything else we might want to know?
Most of us will have to live vicariously through you guys when it comes to owning Womas so please share your experiences with the gang...:)

Hey Cranwill, Well Womas are Austrailian Pythons that live in desert like conditions, therefore they can handle a fairly wide temperature range (its cold at night & hot during the day) & don't require much humidity. Mine are kept at say 70 at the cold end (nighttime low) to as high as 95ish or so were its hot during the day. They have a 24 hr source of heat provided by a white medical heat pad (about 90 on low) & are living in aspen. Despite not having heat sensing pits (rare for pythons) they are pythons therefore they lay eggs. I more or less am keeping mine like colubrids with the exception of higher daytime "highs". As far as breeding goes I currently have siblings & almost all the Womas in the country have came from either Don or Henry (which are the same bloodlines) so until I find others I'm not too worried about it. In the wild they will eat like Kingsnakes taking a wide variety of prey. Oh yeah they stay relatively small for pythons I believe 6-7 feet is about an average adult. Womas are one of the types of snakes that will grow really fast too. I've heard that people will "powerfeed" them to an adult size in like a year & a 1/2, but not nessicarily a good idea. Anyhow I hope this answers some questions for you & oh yeah did I mention that they are one of the COOLEST SNAKES EVER TO EXIST!!!
LOL Mark I.

Gonesnakee.. We got ours from Don Patterson, and hopefully we will get another pair within the next year or two. From what I have heard it will be really difficult to find any in Canada that don't come from Don or Henry. How often are you feeding yours and what size of food???... Thanks very much for all the feedback everyone.
p.s With this new camera we may go picture crazy this weekend..
Sorry we didn't respond sooner, shift work sucks!
