View Full Version : Should I do this?

I really want to get a corn snake but my wife REALLY doesn't like the idea. She said that I can get one if it stays in the garage. Is this a bad idea considering the temp variations? I'm sure I can maintain warm temps in the winter but my concern is in the summer time. I live in the Sacramento area and it isn't unusual for outside temps to exceed 100 F. My garage rarely gets above 90 F but it is possible to go into the mid 90's on the hottest days.
Should I scrap this idea and just give up on keeping a snake?

In warm climates a garage is a snake killer.
Unless you get a window unit air conditioner to keep the high temps down I would not recommend it.
I have a well insulated room built in 1/3 of my garage with a window unit.
I live in Deep South Texas where the temps in my garage may hit the 120s easily.

But I have a buddy in Walnut Ridge that keeps his snakes in his garage.....He used to live in Vallejo and kept them in his garage there too.....
I do not know if he had air conditioning for them or not.......

Vallejo is in the San Francisco Bay area and has a much more moderate climate than Sacramento, which is HOT in the summer months. Neither wife nor snake should stay in the garage.

LOL, yea I knew deep down that it wasn't a good idea keeping a snake in the garage. Now the wife on the other hand, hmmmm.

I'm not sure what the big deal is with a corn snake. Have you shown her one? Talked bout the size they get etc?
I guess with a burm and retic and another retic in the future and my wife approving I should feel lucky
Good luck with it all

Maybe a window ac unit is good idea! Or a good idea take your wife to petco or petsmart and look at the Zilla brand enclosures they have locking slide lids make them escape proof! Good luck hopefully she sees the cage and lets you have one in the house! Keep us posted
