Help ID this snake? (Denton, TX)

Can anyone tell me what kind of snake this is? It's a little bigger around than a pencil, maybe 8-10 inches long (the red background is the bottom of a 17 quart mop bucket). Rescued from my pool in Denton, TX (just north of DFW).

Looks like a rough earth snake.. Virginia striatulae
