My smaller burm finally shed the other day. So I took her outside for some quick pics while the boyfriend cleaned her enclosure as well as a couple of other enclosures to get ready to feed the next day.

A little back story on this girl for those that don't know. Allie was a problem feeder from the very beginning and I've had her since she was about a month old. It's pretty much my fault as for the first couple of feedings she was given mice as I had not been able to locate rats (was she was eating). Once I found rats her size, she refused them. The only thing she'd eat was mice. Later I tried chicks to try to find her something else and she'd eat those. But still refused a rat...and trust me, I tried everything trick that was given but no luck. Watching her clutch mate (Baby Girl) eat and grow like a burm should, while she wasn't hardly growing at all. :( At one point I was piggy backing a rat behind her chicks to get her to take them and this helped. Each time I fed, I offered a rat and she'd refuse, not showing any signs of feed mode at all. Finally at the first of April she started taking them on her own and has been slowly catching up to Baby Girl.

This is a picture of her at the end of March:

She has probably grown 3x what she was in March, if not more. She takes jumbo rats and is a little over 6' now. She's a little leaner than what I'd like her to be but she's looking better and better after each feed.

She doesn't have a very high feed mode. Most times I can just hold the rat by the tail and she'll start eating it while I'm holding it. She's very gentle, curious yet just kind of ambles along. She's not near of a handful as Baby Girl when she's out, but can be difficult to put back up lol.

I really love how she's coloring up. She has a huge amount of high white to her compared to Baby Girl. I hope she doesn't lose a lot of it as she matures. She's really light and bright!

Thanks for looking! :)

With each and every gorgeous Burm I see, I always think "How can people just dump them off in Florida??" I know why, size and such, but still... They are so pretty!

People don't realize their growth potential for the most part, I think. When I got mine I doubt they were 3' long. They still had the hatchling lavender tint to them. lol To see them grow from such a tiny worm to a where they both are now is amazing. I can see where the size in even just a year can be a bit daunting. And I expect mine to attain 12'-14' before their growth all but stops. It doesn't mean irresponsible people should just let them go. It's sad because with a little work, they can be gentle giants.
