View Full Version : Housing Carpet Python Pairs?
Is it best to keep a m/f pair in the same enclosure or separate enclosures? I'm getting them on Saturday. Thanks!

Congrats on your Carpets! Please post photos when you get them :) They should be in Separate enclosures, unless breeding. But even then they shouldn't be together longer then necessary.

I recommend separate enclosures - the world just doesn't need any more unwanted baby Carpets, and housing snakes together can be quite problematic :(

i know plenty Carpet Python keepers who keep the following together with NO problems.....
i have had NO issue's keeping,SAME sized females together, also SAME sized pairs together
i ALWAYS seperate at feeding time
NEVER put 2 males in the same tank, all male Carpets with the exception of Diamond Pythons, will COMBAT during the mating season
what age are the Carpets your getting mate ?
are they around the same size ?
imo the only hassle keeping them together is the hassle of splitting them up at feeding time
to the op
once a pair of pythons reach sexual maturity, unless you WANT to breed them, split them up BEFORE breeding season
imo if you have the space to house them seperately, then it would be easier on YOU as a keeper mate
cheers shaun

They are roughly the same size and age. Both were hatched from unrelated clutches in May & June of 2011.
I have room for separate enclosures. I have a nice sized enclosure that would be perfect for two of them if it was ok. It is 4'Lx4'Hx2'W that has a divider in the middle making it two enclosures with two access doors. The divider is removable so it was just a thought.
Thanks for the advise Shaun

The guys over at Care of Jungle Carpet Pythons (http://www.australianaddiction.com/junglecare.html) keep their pairs together year round. They seem to have a solid setup going. Things can differ, so you may need to experiment over time.
