cut, scrape, scale rot?....pics

Im new here and will do an intro but a quick question first. This is my son and daughter in-laws BP. The cut you see started out small and almost unnoticeable. Its now huge. It doesnt seem to be bothering the BP, but looks bad. Anyone know what this is? It started looking like what I've seen some say is a "belly button"? Sorry for the blurred pics. Thanks in advance everyone.

Honestly I can't really see anything from the pictures....but if it is Scale Rot the scales would be turning almost a rusty colour and start to peel so it doesn't look like it is that - good thing! Just keep an eye out and keep us updated.

I think the OP is referring to the line in between the color of the BP and where the white of the belly starts. (looking at the 2nd photo) Closer to the head you can see the color fades into the white of the belly, then There is a darker colored line starts that looks like it distinctively divides the color and the white of the belly- if that makes sense? Not sure if I'm right, and If I am, im not educated enough to know if it is a problem or not. :/ sorry I can't explain it better lol

Ok.. I am guessing this photo shows what you are talking about best. If I am correct you are talking about the rusty colored spots where the stomach scales meet the side down near your hand?

What type of viv is the snake being kept in? Heat? humidity?

Also a better picture would help a ton.

Thanks for lookIng guys. Sorry for the bad pics. Yes It is the rusty colored line runnIng between his color and white down by her hand. . In person it looks like a cut. not deep. It started small, was there when they got hIm and seems to grow with the snake. It doesnt change wIth shed. They have owned the snake for a year. He eats, sheds, Is actIve...as much as BPs are. I don't get to visit my son/daughter inlaw very often but will ask to have more pics sent to me and viv info. I know it's in a 20 gallon glass, cardboard top...the screen broke...coconut substrate. They're snakes have mites if that helps.

Also...if you look up toward the top off the last pic...following the rust colored line, where it ends an indentation starts...that's how it looked to begin with. But only an inch long.

Since the snake has mites it could be from them eating him, but I am no expert so I could be wrong. But I would definitely get the mites taken care of either way. nix or reptile relief with prevent a mite with work nix or reptile relief will kill the mites on the snake while prevent a mite will kill the mites in the cage.

With the lack of information and poor quality pictures I am going to set a vet visit is in order. I don't know how mite treatment will affect the open sores but both issues are probably tied together. Depending on how clean the tank is, the temps and humidity there could be a lot more going on then we can tell you about online. Unless you can get us better pics and more information.

Until the mites are fully treated remove the coconut shavings and use white paper towls and a light colored water dish so you can see the mites in the water thats what I did with mine when they got mites I no long buy substrate I use newspaper

use PROVENT A MITE

you do NOT spray the snake or water bowl

that way theres no direct contact,on the snakes on going problem

the provent a mite remains active for 30 days,and has always worked first time everytime for me
