This is Plissken... Ate two pinkies for me today, then zoomed off so I got some pictures while he was playing.

I know. He took two pinkies today (I tried that as he's almost a year old, and he's still very wee, but also because he was acting so hungry after 5 days). Now he's content, and hanging out under he's hide on the heated side of the tank.

And I just went to grab something from my room, this is how I found him. Adventurous after he eats!

He's looking for more food....
Try larger prey or more than two pinks.

nice!!! i love the eyes. you should really invest in a digital thermometer though. those dial ones are great for decoration but are not trust worty IMO. corn snakes are preety adaptable though so as long as he has a heat source and a hide you should be good.

Nice looking Butter Motley you have there. I would try a fuzzy next time. I think hes big enough for that.

I will be, I just fed him the pinkies because that's what I had and they were going to go to waste. But, I buy pinkies from a breeder here in town, and he only had rat pinkies, would those be big enough?
Also, I have a digital thermometer that is one of those point and click deals. It's really helpful getting temperatures in different areas.

Its hard to tell from the pics just how big this Corn is. It wouldn't hurt to try a rat pinkie next time. If it's too big you will know once you put it in. That would be great if he could and would eat a rat pink. Try it and see what happens.

Thanks, I will try it. Also, while we are on feeding, I am debating (I had him on 7 day feedings, but he seems so damn hungry on that) switching to a 5 day feeding, any thoughts on this?

Yeah if you think he will eat that often, and he is still a baby, and Corns are very active, yeah, 5 day feedings will be ok for now IMO.
Another thing to consider is that he may be hungry because his prey size has been too small. Now that I think about it, while 5 day feedings wont hurt, I would try the larger prey size first before bumping up the feeding frequency.

You bring up a good point. I'll see how that goes over. Also, is there any danger to his obsession with eating things from the butt to head? The last three or four things I've fed him, he'll strike at the head, but then moves around to the other end.

The only thing that results from that is that he has to work harder to get it down. I have witnessed a few backward feedings and that is the only thing Ive seen happen. Generally there are no ill effects otherwise.

Thank you John. That means a lot coming from you. I just love Corns. They're so much fun.
TheBoogieDown, your corn snake is really pretty.
Can I ask a question, as a relatively new owner? I have been told not to use newspaper with colored ink. I see you use it. Is that just a myth, then?

Thanks. I am a new owner, and I have only had him for a couple of weeks. As for the newspaper, that's the first I've heard of the colored ink thing, but you may be right. I'm not sure. But, it's the only news paper I have available at the moment, and normally he is on aspen bedding.
Only reason he is on the newspaper is the fact that the previous owners let him have some retained shed (I'm pretty sure it wasn't intentionally done by them, the probably just didn't know what it was... much like I didn't know until I came here) and he just lost the tip of his tail.
Hmmmmm. Well, maybe somebody will chime in and we'll both find our for sure. :)
My local newspapers use a lot of color and it is hard to find pages of just black and white. That's why I was wondering.
Poor baby losing the tip of his tail! :( He looks GREAT now, though!!!

You are right... Hopefully we can get a good answer... I do trust people on here more so than other info on the interwebs... I'm sure if I got the newspaper, I could find more with no coloring (I mostly use the stupid adverts and coupon pages I get in the mail)..
I know though, I feel bad for him. But, taking care of him has been a pretty big bright spot in my dull life haha. It definitely feels like we take care of each other though... He entertains me, I keep him fed, and his tail clean. Fair trade, if I do say so myself.

I gave always used newspaper exclusively with no ill effects. Most newspapers these days use a non toxic type of ink so I wouldn't worry about that if I were you.

Tango- Thanks for the compliments and questions. Good thing you asked, because I'd have never known about the color thing.
Exwizard- Thanks for clearing that up. Good to know that everything is safe and hunky dory!
