View Full Version : Retic rubbing....any thoughts?
The past few nights, I've noticed the retic rubbing like crazy. I've asked her to stop, even threatened her with grounding. She just won't listen.....
Anyway....she's on a feeding regimen of large rat every 10 days. Temps hot end 92, cool end 84 with a dip at night. Humidity fluctuates, 40-50% normally, increases to 60-70% with daily misting. Plenty of hiding spaces on each end. She's 3yrs old and approx 6 ft in an appropriately sized enloseure. Plenty of fresh water as well. This behavior only goes on "after the lights are out".....
She's got a bit of a swollen upper lip. No sign of infection at this time.
Needing some input from some retic folks.....thanks in advance!!!!

They do it for no reason sometimes, but if I were to guess I would say your temps are too high and humidity too low. 78-88 gradient.and keep it above 60, also if she's a mainland she should be a lot bigger than she is at that age. She may also just want to breed, but that's typically what males do when they're in breed mode, you sure she isn't actually a he?
so 75 isn't too cool? good to know. There's so much conflicting info >.< hope she stops rubbing soon!

As long as they have a hot spot where they can go to warm up yeah, my temp gradient for mine is 90 hit spot, 82ish ambient and 78 on the cool.end. Ambient is really what matters honestly as long as a solid hotspot is provided.

Cool...good to know. I'll try adjusting temps a bit and increase humidity. As far as her size....this is the one that was supposedly a dwarf. If this was totally bogus, it would seem I have some ground to make up. However, "she" is eating regularly appropriately sized meals, and seems to be holding steady on size. As far as her sex......I haven't probed her. I guess anything is possible!! :)

Right on, forgot she was supposed to be a dwarf. I would get her sexed to find out for sure. What's she eating now?

Yea I have my hot spot at 90 via thermostat and the cool side can range from 76-82 depending on the ac.
Hope she stops rubbing for ya

large rat every 7-10 days. it does leave a "bulge" in the snake for approx 4-ish days.
