I was worried about feeding my BCL a rat as posed to his normal mouse because of size. Well he squeezed it till it bled all over so I have to clean his cage now but he ate it. He is now moving around acting what i would describe as happy like when i go you on a sushi binge. :smug:

So you just threw it in there after it thawed or did you warm it up?

i thaw my prey out overnight and heat it with a hair dryer before feeding

that said, some of my carpets will take prey, thats been thawed out overnight, without giving it any extra heat

others need the extra heat or they won't go near it

some of mine are very fussy, about exactly how hot their prey is,and if its not exactly how they like it,they won't eat

cheers shaun

I've tried the hair dryer thing, it's a bit smelly imo.

Spot's breeder advised me to serve rats up right out of hot water. He said "water can be as hot as the tap goes" - I get excellent results with this method, and I know my snakes get a bit of h20. You should try it if you don't feel like using a hair dryer or don't want the smell...

I'm just wondering because it sounds like his snake popped the rat. I never have problems with blood.

only time i see blood is from the rats nose. and i think that's just from them prekilling it before freezing.

My corn snake once squeezed a rats eyes out lol. and another time he constricted a live mouse for so long it started bleeding from it's mouth. my corn snake is probably my most vicious eater lol...

If you heat the rat to quickly or to hot it may burst.

Well yes he did "pop" the rat he hit it hard and squeezed it tight. As for thawing and warming I thaw durring day while I work then put it on top of a florecent light fixture for about 20 minutes to bring it to body temp. I have done the hot water thing and he isn't crazy for it that way.
