Awesome what is she/he about 4 feet now?

@Rogue - Thanks!
@Zach - Exactly. She's about 4 feet now... Although it's hard to get a true measurement when she always has a death-grip on my arm lol

My hog holds on for dear life and it hurts sometimes and he is only 40 inches.
Does she have a reduced pattern?

My common boa used to do that. But I've learned with her that as long as she can wrap her tail around my arm/wrist area, she's alot calmer when I'm handling her and she doesn't hold on quite as tight. I think they just need that security.

@Zach - I don't think she's considered a reduced pattern, but she is a bit cleaner than some others that I've seen.
@Rogue - She's getting better, slowly. But she has her tail wrapped around me no matter what lol ;)

I really love the pictures of you Boa. She is very pretty. I will try and post some of mine when I have learnt how to upload. How old is she?

I'd say an 09?

Is it just the size of her that makes you say that? I am just wondering as my Hog is around 4' 9" now and she is a 10.

Either you are power feeding or you have diluted bloodlines.

I am definitely not power feeding! When you say my bloodlines are diluted what exactly do you mean? Are you suggesting my Hog is a cross?

Could you post a pic maybe?
You could probably tell if it was a cross if it had more than 25 percent normal bci in it.
Do you know the breeder?
For example my hog is a 2010 Lemke line hog from Desert Moon Reptiles that is a descendant of the original hog's that were imported.

I could post a pic but not at the moment as I am at work. I know the breeder in the UK and the grandparents came from these guys I think Home | Stöckl - Die Nr.1 Boa constrictor Seite im Internet (http://www.boa-constrictors.com/en/_home).
How big is you male? What do you feed him and how often? Do you have any pics? I would love to see him.

I just read in your other post your male is 40 inches. My bad.

My 2010 is 38 to 40 inches and is eating a small/medium rat every seven days.
Here is a pic from the breeder.the pic is like six months old.

I went on that site and those Hondurans are not labeled as Hog Island or Cayos Ca Chino Island.
So I am thinking they are mainland boas but I could be wrong. It may be worth contacting them
Do you mind if I ask how much you payed for him?

Your male looks awesome. I just remembered I have this one of her I took on my phone. Not the best pic I grant you.

I don't think that is a hog.
Was it sold to you as a hog?
rudders
08-31-12, 04:43 PM
Yes it was. It is a female. What makes you say it is not a hog?

Look at it compared to mine and toronto's. Unless it is in super dark phase I believe you got swindled.

I don't think I did. The breeder is a very relaible one over here. He is a very knowledgable guy. The pic was taken on my phone, behind glass and at night with no light in the room except from the viv. She is not always this dark. She is also a very early 2010 and only 9 inches longer than toronto's. Therefore do you not think it is entirely possible that she is a hog as they are larger than males anyway?

Females grow to a bigger size but it does not mean males don't grow as fast.
It is simply not a pure hog, I hope you didn't pay for a hog.

So your reasons for it not being a hog are its too dark and big, right? Anything else?

Nothing without tail and head pics.

I am not annoyed at all. I am pleased to have the discussion. You seem very knowledgable so I value your opinion and thoughts. I was told she is a pure Hog. I will take some better pics tomorrow and post them for your thoughts.
I love her whatever she is anyway. She has beautiful markings and a great temprament. I need to know if she is not a Hog as I may have to upgrade her viv if she gets too large.
What size viv is you 40" male in? By the way she is called 'Margaret'. She would not like to be known as 'her' for too long.;)

My guy is in a 4x2x2 melamine/particle board viv.
I am almost certain she is not a 100% pure hog.
rudders
08-31-12, 05:07 PM
I think she must at the very least have one hog parent as she has the same markings as yours (spots along her top, salmon pink areas and a very colourful orange tail). She is also in a 4x2x2.

I feed her a medium rat every week. She is nice and slender not fat at all.

@ Rudders & Zach - My girl is a 2010. It is kind of difficult to see from that photo if yours is a pure Hog. Head and tail shots would definitely help :)

I love all boas!!
I think just by the color and pattern she is 50/50 hog normal bci.

Yeah me too Toronto. I think it was probably my fault. I will start a new thread tomorrow with pics of my girl and then we can discuss her. Back to yours though....
She really is a beautiful snake. Margaret always holds on to my arm with a vice like grip aswell.

Thanks Rudders! Not a prob at all, really. You know Zach has created a Hog Island Boa thread, so maybe you might want to post a few there as well :)
