Long over due to give an up-date on Blitz... My husband and I built him a new viv. 3ft tall 3ft wide and 2 ft deep, It has a top door that swings open like a fridge and a bottom door that folds down for easy water changes and clean up. It came out awesome! We still want to get some up graded perches and more vines as well as a better sub-straight but for now it is done. I think Blitz will be very happy in it. So here are a few pics of the set up and my snakey.

I am heating this with a Pro products radiant heat panel, I have encased rope lighting for when I want to show him off at night. If you have any questions ask away.

I have had him for roughly a 1.5 yrs.. I don't tend to mess with him or take pics often. He is very much a look and don't touch snake. He wants to eat my face off.. lol

Thanks everyone! I can't wait to get the rest of the stuff for in it. It will look amazing then. I will take a picture tonight to show you guys the lights that we installed. The viv sits on my dresser right at the foot of my bed so I will get to watch him at night if I wake up...lol Although I won't have his light on at night only in the late evening for a little bit.

Awesome setup!
Everyone seems to have better luck than me with those fake plants. I once put some in Spot's cage and I started to smell burning/hot plastic after a couple days...

I don't have the plastic go near the heat source.. I don't see how it would cause a smell  As long as you use a thermostat and a radiant heat panel. I can only see it causing a smell if you use a ceramic heat emitter or light bulb for heat. The pro products radiant heat panels feel cool to the touch but do a GREAT job.
Great work on the viv it is impressive

I was using a radiant heat panel and a thermostat. The plant was maybe 8 inches from the heat panel. The weird plastic smell subsided as soon as I removed the plant.
Somewhat nervous to ever try it again...

That is VERY odd.. I would set up an empty viv and then try a silk plant. I just went and looked at mine and the 2 top ones in the viv are silk not plastic. The only plastic one is the one that sits on the bottom of the viv. I simply put that one on the bottom because it was heavier. Maybe that is why?

Well I got it at Petco, and I'm pretty sure it was made by Exo-Terra. I just checked on Exo-Terra's site, and a plant that looks similar to the one I used and had bad luck with is listed as silk.

^looked similar to "Abuliton"...

Ok I am lost at why it would do that then...

That idea to test another out was smart. I'll buy another at an expo coming a week from this weekend. I have a nice spare PVC enclosure but it's heated by a bulb. I'll give whatever I find a nice test run...

Better safe than sorry at least. I would go nuts if I couldn't hang those things in my vivs.. lol

That looks really cool!
Did you guys make that from scratch, or modify something already existing? What a great idea for the bottom opening...good job!

Thanks Jaleely, We made it from scratch.. Just a big box made out of oak plywood and custom doors.
These may very well be my favorite snake, even though I do not own one. Gorgeous snake and great viv! I like that rusted/burnt/earthy look to the pipe he is on, did you buy it like that, or what did you do to give it that look?

I have heard of using a blow torch to brown it slightly.

That is just what I did. It didn't come out how I wanted it to but it was close enough for me to use anyways. I am getting more perches for him soon and will update pics once the white PVC is gone.

Great set up! My only question is, how do you keep the humidity levels high enough in that large of a space? I dont doubt you in any way just curious is all.
I cant get enough of these snakes, you could post new pics everyday and I'd come to look.

It is very simple actually.. He only has 4 vents and the rest of the viv is sealed very very well. We can shut any of the 4 vents as we need to in order to ensure proper humidity. I use cypress mulch normally but I am out at the moment so he doesn't have much sub-straight but I can poor a gallon of water on the bottom of the cage and it will not harm the cage at all just allow for great humidity. Using only a radiant heat panel for heat the humidity doesn't dissipate much at all like if I was to use a heat lamp. I typically mist his cage once a week otherwise it maintains perfectly.

wow! the best i can come up with is a plastic see through tote people use, thats a good setup.

How often do you have to mist to keep the humidity up?
I want one of these guys, and could easily set up an arboreal, pvc, fully enclosed set up (no screen top) heated by a radient heat panel.
But, I'm usually gone Friday and Saturday, and would not be there to spray for humidity. Best I'd be able to do is spray Friday morning, and that would have to be good enough until Sunday night (works fine for my ball python, sheds perfectly every time)...
Wouldn't be enough humidity to cut it for a GTP though, right??

Since we moved our GTP into his newer sealed wooden viv he only needs misting two-three times a week, before he was needing daily misting.

I have not misted in 2 weeks... If you set it up right you don't need to mist often at all. I shut the vents down a bit due to not turning on the house heat yet but wanting his viv to retain heat. When I have all 4 vents open I have to mist every 6-8 days on average.
